He would've gotten his job back, likely with promotion and honors, and he would've been heralded as an American Hero. While it was a little underhanded that he rented out the room at the Hughs residence to spy on and gather information from Hogarth about the giant, I think that craftiness and dedication to his job should be respected due to how important it was to figure out the truth.
