>character is a bad person
>doesn't even improve as a player
>movie ends with him somehow beating the professional player who kicked his ass before
>crying tears of joy as he sees his baby, along with his gf who loves him despite him cheating on her
>movie fully wants you to believe that he deserves this objectively happy ending
was this written by a sociopath?

Marty supreme is kino. I usually watch movies at 1.8x but this one was good and. Had no skips. Watched this at 1.2x
>>
Fag way of holding a paddle anyway.
>>
This movie potentially looks good but I am afraid of it's jewishness. Can I withstand it?

>Marty is a much less bad person than Howard or Nick. He is arrogant, and does pay a price for it, but not some overwhelming price of death or life in prison.
>If you watch the original match between Endo and Marty, Marty gets closer in each of the three games in score. He didn't know how to respond to the new paddle at first, and learned to beat it.
>Dream Big
>The girlfriend is just like Marty
>He proved to himself he was the best at the game, even though he will never be seen as the best. With that, he can let the curse of talent go because he fulfilled his obligation. And with that, he finally realizes what is more important.

Do you see how these two sentences contradict each other?

>movie fully wants you to believe that he deserves this objectively happy ending
I'm not going to be one of those "media literacy fags" who says you didn't understand the movie. But let me share how I interpreted the ending, maybe it’ll help you see it in a different light. I don't think the movie wants you to believe he deserves this happy ending or that he even got one. First of all, that's not the ending he wanted. He wanted to be a table tennis superstar, win tournaments, and become rich and famous.

So, the way I see it, the ending of Marty Supreme is ambiguous. Maybe you think it's a happy ending, but does Marty? Does he think winning against Endo in an exhibition match and then going home to work in a shoe store and raise a family is a happy ending? That's the question at the end of the movie. Marty does terrible things to achieve his dreams and fails, but life gives him a second chance to become something else, to change his ways.

Will Marty take that chance? Or will he run away like he did so many times during the movie? Are those truly tears of joy, or tears of sadness because that baby means his previous dreams are officially dead?
>>
>>219828822
That last point isnt true, and its also not true that its a happy ending. If you can only see it as the forced happy family ending that tells more on you than the movie
>>
>>219829951
No he didnt learn the new paddle or get better in those games he just stopped being a cocky jackass and started playing for real
>>
>>219829958
based on a man who has had two babies, both of which are still alive, i can say that I did not feel any sort of tears of joy when seeing either baby for the first time. it takes like at least 6 months to begin to feel a connection to the baby.

those tears were bullshit.
>>
>>219829958
NTA but you've just sold me on seeing this movie. Thanks fag. I had no idea this shit was about table tennis. I love table tennis.

>crying tears of joy as he sees his baby
That wasn't my interpretation of the scene; to me he is crying because he finally realises his dreams are over and now he'll have to go back to working at the shoe shop.

From Josh Safdie
>>
>>219830391
Yeah, I mean, Josh Safdie has become a father since the release of Uncut Gems, and that clearly is a big deal to him. People are trying to overread the ending. It is ultimately intended to be a very happy moment, even if there is a slight hint of despair that his previous dream had to end.

Says who? The movie shows the beauty of birth and alludes to the fact that it might change him but there's nothing suggesting he deserved it.
>>
>>219830068
I think it is different for everyone. I don't judge you but I felt instant love and protection and fear for my son from the first time I held him. I know that isn't everyone's experience but I had extremely complex emotions, yet the joy and optimism were the heaviest ones. 6 months later I desperately wanted to kill myself more than I cared to see him smile and that's where I still am now. I'm less cut out for it than Marty honestly. He will be okay.

This movie is evil. I turned it off after them abusing that dog.

No, that’s just like real life.
Terrible people succeed all the time. Grow up.

You wouldn’t get it because you are brown. He did everything he possibly could to win, he rode the tiger, he surfed the Kali Yuga, he didn’t abide by cucked slave morality, he was an ubermensch, an embodiment of the Faustian spirit.
>>
>>219828822
>was this written by a sociopath?
Yes. He let one of his drug addict friends rape a kid on one of his movies.

Or maybe art can only possibly be what you make/interpret of it. Y'know until you start fogging your personal connection to it with critics and anons telling you what to think. It isn't "intrinsically" any one subtextual theme. I think. Most good movies don't spell out the ending and the future for its characters for you on purpose. They give you room to think about it for a few days afterwards and contemplate the sometimes dozens of different possibilities. You can pick one if you want or let them all exist as potential. "What the movie is asking" is ultimately determined by how you. Not that there are infinite different directions it can go, but its a lot more than one. I am in the boat that thinks the tears could be interpreted in multiple ways, not just tears of joy from becoming a dad.

I got the 4k, and I appreciate the metallic wording and the director's commentary, but I really hate digipacks. I wish that wasn't the A24 standard.
