RoboCop 3 > RoboCop 2
>>
>>219836089
Same situation with nuWars 7 and 8, or Toy Story 3 and 4, or Robocop 2 and 3.
Both sucked, but the second one sucked less.
Oddly the public fellates the shittier first one and slams more criticism on the second one.

Makes me wonder if there's some level of opinion coordination to make people eat two pieces of shit and only complain about the second one, even when its carefully made slightly less shitty.

Quite frankly, RoboCop 2 mostly annoys me, it's not a good movie so there's very little enjoyment that comes from watching it, at least 3 is stupid enough to be fun.
>>
>>219836151
i had a film professor insist it 2 was better than the original.
>>
>>219836151
I like the suit better in RoboCop 2, and there are moments of brilliance, but overall the film isn't very cohesive. 3 might be a little watered down, but at least it's a stronger story.
>>
>>219836182
Why do they keep changing the suit? Do they keep trashing it between films?
>>
>>219836151
It really shows how much the script went through different writers.
>>
>>219836089
Shove your ragebait up your ass, faggot.
>>
>>219836234
The suits on the first film was extremely cumbersome and took a long time to put on, there were also issues with the paint that caused the suits to need repairing and repainting every night. For the second film they made a new suit with sturdier materials, they also changed the colours to photograph better. The new suit required less maintenance and was much easier for Weller and the team to put on, though apparently because the crotch section was no longer made of foam rubber it was a little harder to walk in.
The suit in RoboCop 3 is the same suit from 2, just with more toned down colours. Orion told Fred Dekker that he needed to try and keep the budget down and to re-use the RoboCop 2 suit, which meant needing to find an actor who was basically the same size to replace Weller. Poor John Burke though was slightly taller and had a larger head, which meant that the suit frequently cut into his skin during filming.

I don't get why people say the second movie is bad. The first one is great, and an 80s classic, but the second one is a decent action movie in its own right, and it manages to retain some of the atmosphere from the first movie. I'd rate it far above something like Terminator 3 or Alien 3, and on par with Predator 2, which is also inferior to the first movie, but still a decent action movie.

Robocop 3 is just pure trash, and unwatchable.

It's not that I don't like 2, I love 2, I love all three original films, I just think 3 is a stronger film and if it had been R-rated it'd probably be considered almost as good as the original.

I didn't say it was good (I enjoy it, but it's definitely a flawed film), just that it's better than 2. I enjoy 2 as well, but 2 is more a scattershot of interesting ideas rather than a complete story.
>>
>>219836403
Robocop 2 recycles too many things from the first film. At least Predator 2 relocates from the jungle to the city, takes a very different kind of protagonist, and further distinguishes itself with its own comic bookish visual style, a style that sometimes looks a bit like TMNT. Predator 2 does just about enough to justify its existence.

Robocop 2 is Robocop doing the same shit in the same places but now without Verhoeven's magic touch.

That's a problem with comics in general. Even some highly regarded comics like Sandman and Preacher have shitty art.

Plenty of comics have nice art, most have passable art, but it's a travesty when a good story is saddled with bad art. While I have no issues with Anakin doing what he does, it is also perfectly plausible within context for Nikko to do what she does. First you consider that Robocop is technically set in the future, now imagine what it's like with kids as young as three being able to operate tablets and smart phones like it's natural, so a level of base tech savviness makes sense. Nikko is shown to be advanced for her age with an interest in tech (specifically the tech the operates Robocop and ED-209), and finally consider the ED-209 is cheaply made and probably had fuck all in the way of safeguards, honestly it's surprising that the 209s aren't hacked more often, they probably rely on intimidation and quick triggers to dissuade opponents rather than actually efficiency.

Robocop 2 doesn't get the original. It loses the heart, soul, and biting wit, leaving only violence and goofball cynicism

This.

The movie studio also didn't want to wait for the original Robocop 1 writers and Director Paul Verhoeven to be free to direct Robocop 2. The studio rushed the sequel and hire brand new writers and a new Director.

I honestly do not know why they thought that was a good idea.
>>
>>219839453

Worst part is they had a script from the original writers and tossed it.
That script eventually got reworked into the pilot movie for Robocop The Series, so Murphy at least got his hot hologram girlfriend in the end.

Of course, it doesn't matter in works of fiction like that, because it's not political, and it's just superficial, dumb entertainment. It's the same as when the japs make female hackers in anime and manga. It's something that essentially doesn't exist, but it's more of a character trait to make the female characters less boring.

This is just regurgitated rhetoric at this point. 2 still retains everything the original had, albeit viewed through a more jaded lens. It's still ultimate about Murphy continuing to hold onto his identity despite the world trying to tear it from him.

>>219840993
A better way to put it is that he wasn't maliciously evil before. Blatantly detached from the reality of what the OCP was doing, but more in the manner of big picture, "ends justify the means" thinking rather than doing as he pleases because the company's word is law.

Sort of, the Kanemitsu corporation aren't really the villains, they're mostly just bankrolling OCP's floundering efforts to avoid completely collapsing. They let OCP use the Otomo, but that's it.

It was filmed in '91 and originally supposed to release in '92, but Orion's financial troubles kept it on the shelf until '93.

Why do people always complain about kid characters? I understand if the kid is a shit actor, but I see people complain even when the kid gives a good perfomance, like Hob, like Nikko, like John Connor. The fuck is up with that?

Robocop 2 has a couple of fun scenes (the suicidal prototypes, the excellent miniature work, etc) but doesn't come close to the depth of original. Aliens works as an action oriented sequel to Alien; but Robocop 2 should not have taken this approach.

Robocop is a perfect movie in every sense, it is the film equivalent of stepping in a puddle and falling into the Mariana trench. Nobody expected a film about a cyborg policeman, actually titled "Robocop," to be anything more than an insignificant entry into the library of endless 80's sci-fi/action B-Movie saturday afternoon-TV-filler slop. Robocop is a smart, dark, tight, cynical, deep, shocking, grotesque, and a relentlessly poignant work of genius, but on the surface it looks like a dumb action movie about a violent robot.

The premise alone needs a high amount of introspection:

On the surface: Officer Alex Murphy is killed in the line of duty and resurrected as a cyborg who wages a violent war on crime in future Detroit.

What is actually happening: An idealistic police officer horrendously ill-equipped to handle the depraved corruption of future Detroit is consumed by evil forces with unimaginable cruelty. The society which produces such evil is completely numb to the consequences of it's own endless decadence, and if anyone actually notices the last vestiges of nobility being snuffed out, it is with a feigned sense of pity. Then, OCP, a corporation infinitely more evil than the street thugs who murdered Alex Murphy, realize they technically still own Murphy's remains, and resurrect him as an obedient, unfeeling cyborg policeman. Even after death, he still belongs to the corporation, and they demand his continued service. Between the hyperviolent street-criminals and the rich corporate overlords, it becomes apparent that the only true force of good is the soul of Alex Murphy, fighting for identity, within a cold robotic shell.

Robocop is my favorite film, and is perfect. I will die on this hill.

Man I really gotta update my graphics card. My 1060 is way too old to be able to run this game. Also to be fair this game kinda has a high minimum requirements to run.

Mister, you have suffered an emotional shock. I will notify a rape crisis center.
Please refrain from using reddit spacing in the future. Thank you.

Robocop 2 feels like a sleazy anime OVA.

This shit is the greatest Robocop media ever made outside of the original movie.

I actually thought about looking up one of those to see if it was written by an AI, but I thought they only existed for pictures, and was too lazy and too uninterested to check.

>realize they technically still own Murphy's remains
They didn't realize that after the fact. If you listen to them at the board meeting, Bob Morton did it intentionally. He says that he placed prime candidates in areas with high risk and lots of crime. The goal being that when one of them inevitably died, they would have their robocop body. Still, while it's messed up, that's how capitalism works and how a company would go about doing this task. Regular cops aren't handling it, so they need something tougher. Dick Jones is the one sabotaging any decent efforts since he just wants to put out shitty products that murder everyone but enrich himself and the company. If Murphy had to choose what happens to himself after death, I'm sure he'd have been fine carrying on as a badass cyborg cop that actually protected people and upheld the law. If they'd instead made Robocop constantly beat civilians and just enforce unreasonable rules on the civilians to benefit companies, he'd like it a whole lot less.

It's a modern UE game.
Really the biggest gripe I have with it. If you have actually been sentient before 2005, you will probably enjoy it.

you might be able to run it to some extent

I stumbled on robocop 2 on the tv as a kid, and it was shortly before the scene of the preserved brain in the jar. It was pretty fucked up but I had to keep watching.

I think the limited budget and of course the time constraints of doing stop motion limited how ED-209 could be used. With today's CGI they would probably have had a couple ED-209 wandering around in the final battle.

It is deeply troubling to me that any post with decent length and actual care put into it just comes across as AI to you people these days. This is a big part of why this board is turning to shit.

Don't be retarded. It's more that you're listing things like a robot and using reddit/AI spacing.
>>

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. I never watched the whole thing, but I do remember watching his part.
>>
>>219844231
Firstly, I didn't write the post you're referring to. Secondly that anon is clearly listing things for emphasis, and finally using "reddit spacing" as a critique makes you a total fag.

Newfags don't even know what reddit spacing is. Spacing every single sentence is reddit spacing; spacing between paragraphs, completed statements, or for emphasis is just good comprehension.

Steve Dillon's art fucking sucks, he literally draws the same face on every man, woman and child. It might not have been so bad on Preacher but by the time him and Ennis did Punisher comics it was like a parody

Why can't we just get a new Robocop movie with the same suit and gritty atmosphere of the OG?

Seems that Neill Blomkamp (District 9) or Pete Travis (Dredd) would be ideal candidates to Direct!?!FACT!!!

I remember him saying he did Spawn because his grandkids were fans and they wanted him to do it, probably same thing here.

His Constantine stuff was pretty good, and even on Preacher.
Later he just didn't give any fucks anymore. And he was well aware of the Frankface meme.
>>
>>219845909
It is exactly like that in Preacher. We identify the characters by their hairstyles and accessories such as sunglasses, not by their faces, which are almost all the same. You only get a new face type if he's drawing a chinless inbreed or a monster of some kind.

No, it looked great and it gives the film character. It is better and more soulful with the stop motion that more modern movies such as the Robocop reboot
