All memes aside, kitchen work seems like absolute hell. How can you stand on your feet all day simultaneously keeping track of cooking dozens of different dishes? I would have lost my mind by the first shift. No wonder Bourdain ACKed himself

It's a job with an easy tangible way to take pride in. You satisfy people

I did it for 3 years during the summer and I wanted to suicide and developed a general disdain for human beings, especially those human beings that enjoy food.

I tried and got fired for being too slow.

in a smelly sweaty environment, surrounded by retards, during antisocial hours, for shit pay. no wonder they have to delude themselves into thinking they're special.

You get a good pair of shoes, and after a while your feet just get used to it. Once you have the menu down, it's more about keeping the logistics flowing. Not too unlike those games like factorio, and the such.

Those videos of wagies freaking out because a customer walked in near closing hour are pathetic.
>but I was done cleaning
Then tell your manager to change the hours, or to put a sign out front saying "last order by" or get a better job.

>first day of working at chilis

Restaurants have felons and certified retards in the kitchen. Their jobs could literally be done by trained monkies. It will be a cold day in hell when I feel any kind of sympathy for them
>>
>>219838409
>How can you stand on your feet all day simultaneously keeping track of cooking dozens of different dishes?
Cocaine. Not even joking. Everyone in the kitchen is snorting whole fucking day. It's the only way to survive

one time we had a bus roll up less than a minute to close
we served them all and doubled the amount of money we made that day
our reward was getting yelled at by the regional manager for hitting 2 hours of overtime for 2 people, which was probably like $15 total while we made another $3k off that bus
I don't miss restaurants
>>
>>219838703
Retard here. You forgot the third group: illegals. A lot of them are retards, and felons, but tons of them are just run of the mill illegals that refuse to assimilate. I've actually run into very few felons, but I assume that's just anecdotal.

>20 MINUTES BEFORE CLOSE AND I JUST CLEANED THE FUCKING FLAT TOP

Memes aside, whose fault is that? Just stop accepting customers after a certain time and don't start cleaning prematurely. I hate when restaurant workers do this "woe is me" shit.
>>
Did a tour back after my 'dasher days. Sonic. It was a massacre - the frozen onion rings got all soggy - the drive in was packed. Don't know how I got out of there alive. Semper Fry

Alright you must serve one of three families.

An Evangelical Christian Family that has those fake one hundred dollar bill "tips" that tell you to read the bible since that's the greatest tip:)

An African American Baby Momma with a fake weave and four children, one of which is a baby

and finally

A group of vaguely hispanic cholos

The funniest part to me is their lack of awareness. They start working in the one place in a 20km radius that serves food after 10pm and then wonder why every half dead office slave comes in during the late hours.

>>
>>219838336
This is why I don't go to a restaurant that is about to close in 30 minutes. Same reason as to why I don't make a mess in the movie theater. Yeah, it's their job, but if you ever had any experience with customer service you would empathize with those in that position. They're tired and want to go home.

I was so slow and useless, everyone hated me but for some reason they didn't fire me. They just put me on Friday nights, which were the busiest nights and also garbage nights, which I alone had to do, and Saturday mornings, giving me about 3 hours of sleep. Slowly they stopped feeding me too, or giving me coffee, and they all slowly started more openly showing their disdain for me.
I guess they had hoped I would quit, I had a mental break finally after a year and went back to live with my family and went back to school. I ended up anorexia-tier skinny as well.
I got hired because they got mixed up at the interview, I think they mixed me up with the other guy or misunderstood me because they told me later they thought I had experience.

It is fairly stressful, though I often wonder if that's because of head chefs just tending to be these intense NCO corporal types, aside from you usally being in a hurry to cook as fast and effeciently as you can.
It was my first job, and the only aspect I miss is the free food and the fact that it was pretty good food as well (I worked in a proper restaurant not a fast food joint)

>boss wants to close early
>sends back line dishes/spatulas/etc
>get everything clean and put away
>3 top comes in for food and drinks
>mfw I wash the same dishes again
It's not that big of a deal. Staying buzzed all night helps, you care less and roll with the punches.
>>
>>219838409
Just have a smaller menu. 30% of people are gonna get the steak, another 20% will get a burger. Add one pasta dish and some kind of fish and you’re basically done.

based on the tv shows I've seen, which is like the wire and breaking bad, gang members generally avoid trouble with people "not in the game", and tip generously to make civvies like them
