Then a weird alien technology is found that immediately sparks a conflict to get a hold of it and figure out what it does. Thar ignited the already simmering war that's barely been contained. And when it turns into a ring leading to a network of wormholes to 1300 star systems with livable worlds? It's over for humanity's status quo. Everyone would rush to claim their new world first and kill others to do it. The dream of Mars immediately died, the lifestyle of Belters immediately died. And billions of people would reject that change. Lots of Martians wouldn't want it to die and be in denial. Belters are permanently deformed and can't live on the new worlds so they're just left behind. And with Marco, now armed with advanced Martian weapons, he can rally them into seeing their chance to finally get revenge for decades of grievances. Seeing how everyone reacts to the new reality, and conflicts that arise is the most interesting part of The Expanse. It's not Star Trek where everyone gets along and it's easily, peacefully worked out with a happy ending. Even when Marco is defeated and they've colonized most of the new worlds, the story is far from over and not as happy as it seemed

I do wish there were more shows that used a realistic, near term scifi setting rather than the far future magical tech setting. About the only one right now is For All Mankind and still that one is rather too slow. It's still stuck in Mars when having the humans inhabite most of the solar system makes for a more interesting dynamic. So many more places to visit

The show has veeeery inconsistent acting, ranging from "I can't act my way out of a paperbag" (Holden), to "campy as fuck but fun" Avasarala and Miller. The jeet captain's acting is out of high school drama class. The story is peak reddit, but tbqh it is entertaining and the twists are fun....until Miller's death. After that, the McGuffinlecule becomes a bit....too much. I dgaf about Inaros tbqh, and Gunny's acting is the worst only second to HoldenIt's a comfy show to rewatch, but this faggot and his stoopid "SERIOUS HAT" face make me mad, and detract greatly from some alright battle scenes and politicall intrigue
