Why are physical media manbabies so insistent on shoving their retarded autistic way of life on everyone else? Do they not realize people are weirded out by their habit to hoard plastic cases like a bunch of fat, smelly losers.

I would kill to go rent a dvd again. I miss watching special features and dvd commentaries. Currently in the process of acquiring The Simpsons s1-9 and a DS9 complete dvd set

The obsession with physical media is a symptom of cultural stagnation.
I mean it with 100% sincerity that the world would be a better place if we underwent a cultural revolution and roaming band of brownshirts burst into the homes of physical media collectors, smashed their rancid pokemon cartridges and home improvement VHS tapes, and crushed the said collectors' facial bones under steel-shod jackboots.

The special features are the only bonus to the physical media hype beasts arguments, the amount of dvds I have that skip for no reason when it’s not scratched is dumb as shit. I stick with Plex

>DS9 complete dvd set
I bought TNG on Blu-ray recently. It’s worth getting those newer (I think German) releases. They’re so much more space efficient it’s fucking crazy. Unfortunately there’s no visual upgrade for DS9 but it’s a good set all the same. Next big one for me to pick up but there’s usually a bundle that comes with the Voyager set too so I’m waiting on that.

This is like when an employer asks you what your hobby is, and you say: “watching movies”
>look of disgust and no job offer

“I like to watch old movies”
>”oh which ones, anon?”

“I like to go to a small family business that rents older films and watch them on a vintage television set”
>”how interesting! How soon can you start?”

Same thing with women and just people in general. You tell them you like to play video games and you’re a loser. You tell them you collect old arcade machines, or even better, pinball machines…now you’re the most interesting person they’ve ever met. Ramen noodles for lunch<went to a Ramen house.

It’s quite exhausting.

Normies are gonna normie. Is it any wonder why Jews hate the goyim as much as they do? They’re easy to persuade and are swayed by fancy phrasing. We all shit on Jews here, but they absolutely had it right when they came up with the idea there is a class of people incapable of greater thought. Normies lack inner monologue and awareness. Their entire essence is being oversocialized cattle obsessed with appearance.

>The obsession with physical media is a symptom of cultural stagnation.
Wouldn't it be a sign of wanting to preserve culture?
Most my movies are from the 60s and 70s. Destorying them means I would be reliant on watching those movies digitally instead, so nothing changes unless you really hate DVDs for some reason.
>>
>>219843500
Name 7,204 of them.

Could an indie film do well by 'premiering' itself with a release of DVDs?

And then later go on streaming?
>>
>>219843381
I have a small curated collection of movies that are unlikely to appear or remain on streaming. My discs are clean and all work and I like browsing the shelf to find a watch. There’s a distinction that needs to be made between collecting and hoarding.

Something that doesn’t get talked about enough is the ‘ritual’ aspect of putting a movie on. When I just click a few buttons on a streaming site or Plex/Fin server I feel like there’s a “disconnect” between me and the movie and it feels more disposable and I’m more likely to drift away from it. I think choosing a disc, opening a case, seeing the artwork, clicking through the menus and putting it on puts me more “in the zone”. Especially if it’s something like an Indicator release which has things like audio options or regional release/aspect ratios.

imagine how much more insufferable video rental stores would be in our modern society? You think the third world uptick in every western country since 2015 would treat physical media any better than we did in the 90s and early 2000s? You basically couldnt rent older dvds at my old blockbuster because they were scratched to shit and would skip, freeze or not play. Also, what modern day scamming tactics would people pull?
>>
Video rental stores were not only a complete rip off, but what >>219844908 says is completely true.

What people miss is the atmosphere, having to go out and talk with people to enjoy your hobbies, and getting to appreciate the tactile physical nature of it all.

We naturally want to stay in our homes/pods and do less and less, but our minds are crying out for us to live life.

Millenial slop-nostalgia over childhood consoomer products and shit media like GI Joe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is not a flex. Its a disturbing and crippling behavior pattern that should be stamped out. It is by definition, stagnation.
>>
>>219843356
Its particularly bad with X "the everything app". Moreso than other social media shitforms, X users genuinely believe if your follower count isn't above a certain threshold your opinion is meaningless. The thing is, nobody that is doing anything serious and worthwhile in life is LARPing on X for 10 hours a day.

Not commentary related but the effort that went into The IT Crowd DVDs is absolutely unparalleled. Different designs for every single menu, transition effects, faux Mortal Kombat animations for season 3. Genuine passion project for someone.

>a symptom of cultural stagnation
Correct so why do you think killing physical media owners would change that?
>>
there is an argument for difficulty of accessing media incentivizing each piece of media being as high quality as possible to avoid situations where people spend time, effor, money, etc, and end up with a piece of shit in their living room.
>>
>>219847798
I think you have a bigger issue with toy collectors than people owning movies. You may need to recalibrate your anger a little and, if you must, go fight this battle elsewhere. Someone buying a Men In Black box set to watch a few times a year is not the same as obsessively buying every GI Joe figure.
>>
>>219843423
Trek TNG.
I agree that virtually nothing else is worth preserving.

Please take a moment to consider what you’re saying and how much of a fucking spastic you sound. Do you watch movies?

False memory syndrome.

The thing that killed block buster and other video rental stores was being able to rent DVDs by post for a subscription that cost less than getting one new release rental for the entire month.

Netflix, and also Love Film operated like this before streaming and before there was a universal broadband service capable of coping with streaming films everywhere in North America and Europe.

It was THEN that Blockbusters went bust, as they were overpriced (often more than even independent rental shops) and people could see it. Add to that the convenience of just popping a DVD in the post and having new ones waiting for you when you got home and you can see why DVD by post absolutely slaughtered Blockbusters.

Blockbusters could have jumped on the bandwagon then and they would probably still be around today if they had started their own DVD by post rental service, but it was their own short-sightedness that just couldn't see that rather than rely on boomers that feared change, they hadtbe assets to beat Netflix at their own game quite easily. But no, they were too wedded to people paying a premium for just one rental to be able to see this was an existential fight until it was too late.

Blockbusters died while Netflix was still a DVD by post company that dabbled with streaming. Any chump who blames it on streaming is just misremembering.
