also the ghost army, not because plot but because the idea of aragorn leading a fuckhuge army of men sounds 10x visually more badass rather than a ghost army to quickly speed up the battle. but it would be a repeat of theoden's death charge and we can't have that because visual repetition gets old/boring fast, gotta keep things fresh. you'll learn this if you ever try to make a movie.

LotR was written as a worldbuilding exercise and for JRR Tolkien to practice philology in creating Quenya, Sindarin, etc.
