If you know anything about George Lucas it's that he loves stealing from Asian cinema because nobody was paying attention to anything from there back then. He clearly saw some Chinese wuxia films from the 70s and 80s and thought it'd be cool to do.

John Woo films used to have pretty OTT fight scenes too, but Idk if that's changed because I haven't seen any newer movies by him.

>>
>>219844777
It's a disarming tactic, sometimes swordfighters are focused on disarming the opponent to get the kill on easier. In theory, the idea is the Obi-Wan and Maul are trying to disarm the other because both wanna kill the other quicker but the delivery is a bit more theatrical

>The trade federation blockading a small planet of no worth to protest the taxation of their trade routes makes no sense. Especially when they have many other alternative solutions at their disposal.
>There is no visual evidence that the blockade negatively impacts naboo.
>It is never explained why Sidious has so much sway over the TF apart from vague notions of fear.
>Qui-gon and company somehow travel through the Planet's core via a submarine.
>The TF land on the other side of the planet despite having the capability of landing their troops outside the Captiol city.
>Gunray has Amidala sent for processing instead of keeping her secure within the palace. Gunray doesn't even have her escorted by droidekas.
>The TF somehow expect a treaty signed under duress to be legally binding.
>R2D2 being the queen's astromech is a huge contrivance.
>The TF attempt to destroy the ship holding the one person they require to sign their treaty. No fighters are scrambled to Intercept.
>Jar Jar is brought along to Mos Espa despite being a huge liability that makes our group conspicuous.
>Qui-gon's plan to obtain a Nubian Hyperdrive is completely convoluted and takes up way too much time that he admittedly doesn't have.
>Qui-gon has numerous other options to get off Tatoonie or obtain the Nubian hyperdrive and uses none of them.
>C-3PO is built by Anakin. Another major contrivance in order to reintroduce a character from the OT.
>Midichlorians create a number of issues logistically while also removing the mysticism of the Force.
>There is no visual indication Naboo is suffering under the TF occupation.
>No one is aware of the Queen's location but the Queen's advisor is somehow able to send a message to her ship even though the TF is still jamming transmissions.

>The TF has enough pull in the senate to prevent aid to Naboo but not enough to prevent tax increases.
>The queen and company are able to break through the blockade to land back on Naboo with no issue. They are able to land without the TF tracking them down.
>Sidious/Palpatine still pushes to have the TF capture the queen to sign the treaty despite having changed his plans and no longer requiring the TF any longer now that he is chancellor.
>Qui-gon brings a 9 year old to a warzone instead of leaving him with the Jedi Council or Gungans in the Swamp.
>Boss Nass makes Jar Jar a general despite knowing his propensity to cause trouble because he "made peace with the Naboo" the complete opposite of what a combat general is needed for.
>The queen's guard doesn't immediately start shooting at Maul when he shows up unarmed in the hanger.
>Anakin somehow destroys the TF control ship with no combat/flight experience and by complete luck.
>Maul allows Obi-wan to jump over him without even attempting to swipe at him. This is after letting Obi-wan dangle off the ledge without using the force to push him into the chasm.
>The Jedi Council allow Obi-wan to train Anakin despite having nothing but dangerous premonitions regarding the subject.

1. Hire a spacer to take him and Padme to Coruscant. They would have need of republic credits and the rest of the crew could be left behind with Obi-wan as security to be rescued later when Padme and Qui-gon get to Coruscant.
2. Qui-gon could have simply stole the Hyperdrive in the dead of night. He already was willing to steal it via a mind trick. Even if Watto figured Qui-gon stole it the crew have landed out in the desert and no one would be able to find them fast enough before they fixed the ship and left.
3. Qui-gon could have gone to literally more than one dealer to see if anyone would be willing to use Republic Credits or was susceptible to mind tricks. Even if they didn't have the part he could exchange the currency.
4. Qui-gon could have offered to trade the Queen's ship for a working Junker.
He has so many options apart from doing a gay ass betting match relianted entirely on a child.

1. with what credits? remember you said he has monopoly money. no guarantee he'll find a pilot that'll accept republic credits AND they're trying to remain incognito, which means limited contact.
2. ah yes, he'll magically just float a fuckhuge hyperdrive and nobody, i mean NOBODY will see it happen because all of mos espa goes to bed at 10 o'clock sharp. stupid fuck lmao.
3. he could have and yet watto said nobody else around had the hyperdrive and guaranteed it, he wasn't lying. qui-gon had no choice but to deal with watto.
4. this is the first thing you've finally said that's actually a legitimate option. but then ask yourself, what kind of space pilot would buy a ship with no working hyperdrive? and voluntarily strand themselves on a planet with money they can't use? remember the ship didn't have enough to barter with for the hyperdrive, let alone swapping out with some random junker that would likely have a limited hyperdrive or be set to explode or something crazy.

Gen X here. The Star Wars saga ended in 1983 with Return of the Jedi. Everything after that was just a money grab. A failed attempt to recapture the magic of the original trilogy.
Episode IV; Episode V; Episode VI; The End.
>>
I was born in the late 80s and loved the original trilogy when I was a kid. When Episode I was released I was still a child, and I enjoyed it, but it wasn't really the same. I felt the same as the other prequels were released. I got more enjoyment out of KOTOR than any of them, but I didn't hate them. After rewatching everything later on in life, my conclusion is that the prequels are bad movies, and they're not something I'd ever care to watch again. As for the OT, I think the original film is the best. Empire is good, RotJ is decent but a clear downgrade. The OT is fine, but if I were to rewatch any of it, it would only be the original film. I think it's more interesting to watch just that and view it as a standalone film with no sequels, honestly.
>>
>>219852251
>with what credits?
The credits have use in the republic, a spacer traveling to the republic will have need of those credits. Simple as.
>No guarantee of finding a spacer
No less guarantee of this than going to shops looking for the right hyper drive.
>they're trying to remain incognito
They can remain that way until reaching Coruscant. Once they're in the Capitol they have no reason to remain incognito and can complete their mission.
>2. ah yes, he'll magically just float a fuckhuge hyperdrive
Only need to do that to move it out of Watto's shop. Otherwise they can use a basic ass hoverlift to bring the drive back with them. Can cover it with a tarp if they want to be inconspicuous. It's not impossible to steal it and yeah in the dead of night not everyone is gonna be walking the streets to see that. Stay mad retard.
>watto said nobody else around had the hyperdrive and guaranteed it
Oldest merchant trick in the book. Never heard of false scarcity have you?
>qui-gon had no choice but to deal watto.
Even if Watto was the only one with a nubian Hyper drive he could still use a mind trick on a weak minded merchant to exhange his credits or just plain steal money to use at watto's shop.
>4.what kind of space pilot would buy a ship with no working hyperdrive?
A pilot? Probably not. But a merchant like Watto? Would probably love that ship and pay a good price, remember Qui-gon was going to use the ship as his entrance fee for the podrace.
>some random junker would likely have a limited hyperdrive
Star wars has never gave a limitation to hyperdrives you dumb fuck.

>No less guarantee of this than going to shops looking for the right hyper drive.
better chance of staying hidden and buying the necessary parts than going cantina to cantina to find someone willing to go to the inner systems. you seem to forget that the outer rim is the space equivalent of the wild west and the inner rim is new york city, it's a long trip (even by star wars standards) and the odds are against you. nobody is gonna make a deep space trip without it being worth their while, and qui-gon & co have little to bargain with.
>Only need to do that to move it out of Watto's shop. Otherwise they can use a basic ass hoverlift to bring the drive back with them. Can cover it with a tarp if they want to be inconspicuous. yeah because hoverlifts are just hanging around for people to grab and use. gotta buy that too and remember he's only got monopoly money.
>Oldest merchant trick in the book. Never heard of false scarcity have you?
the force would tell qui-gon if he was lying and he would move onto another shop, retard.
>Even if Watto was the only one with a nubian Hyper drive he could still use a mind trick on a weak minded merchant to exhange his credits or just plain steal money to use at watto's shop.

>A pilot? Probably not. But a merchant like Watto? Would probably love that ship and pay a good price, remember Qui-gon was going to use the ship as his entrance fee for the podrace.
qui-gon was playing watto's hand by bargaining with the ship. you're also assuming watto had a ship on hand to trade with, when no such circumstance was ever implied.

And they lie and say the entire fight was too fast and that's why it's bad, when in reality, the fight went through a lot of different stages and there were periods of cooling off and heating back up again that made perfect sense narratively. This lightsaber fight had the same kind of interesting dynamics that the ones in the original trilogy are praised for having, because of how the duel determined Anakin's fate. You can feel the anxiety watching an exhausted Qui-Gon go up against Maul alone, and the sadness when he dies knowing that Anakin needs him.

Now, the lightsaber fight between Obi-Wan and Anakin in III actually made no sense and was basically everything that gen X said that this one was, but of course that's the one that everyone loves because they were told that they were allowed to.

Part of what's great about Star Wars is that it's unclear what the purpose of certain things are, but you know that they have a purpose and can make inferences about them. Star Wars fans seem to not understand this at all, and try to create solid, tangible meanings behind every little thing.

I and II feel like the original trilogy to me. The only one that seems tonally completely unlike Star Wars is Revenge of the Sith, which feels like a weird biopic. There's very little space travel in that movie, and the only times you get to see the rest of the galaxy for the most part are when it's moving away from the main story, which is a dumb conflicted guy walking around a city. I feel like it doesn't really exist because of not only how dumb the story is but how completely different it feels from the other five in the saga. The Star Wars saga to me is five films with a missing third installment.

And episode III is just everything people hated about I and II except way, way worse and with no good story attached to it, which I and II had. But again, people liked it because they were allowed to. They weren't allowed to like Attack of the Clones, despite it being probably the strongest prequel.
