They probably made the right call, from a money grubbing scumbag point of view, to continue where the story left off and flesh it out and follow up on x y and z specific aspects of the original's success by doing x y and z scenes (art sin called "checking off the boxes")... but I hope my meaning is clear regarding what was lost by doing that. Maybe someday I will state it concisely for a Matrix thread and farm ideas for other stories that could be told the same way they did Plato's Cave- with mega creator-humiliation points for a story that could've fit into a reincarnation angle to help retain some cast/setting stuff for the studio big wigs.
