Tho many tried
It's a little messy but if it had less exposition it would be as good if not better than season 1. It's also better than S3.
Asspen likes to bully kids
>>219851680S3 would have been really good but the ending tanks the entire season.S1 > S2 > S3
S2 is underrated kino. No, it's not as good as S1, but good nonetheless. My only real complaint is that the main cast was too big and it was spinning a lot of plates with all the characters and their subplots. Personally I think we could've done without the homo cop. Everything with vince and colin was 10/10
>>219850055started off strong but just too much going on
I'm like a bull in a china shop, RayOnly, I'm lookin' around, and I don't see the cuck
>>219851741My personal schizo conspiracy theory>Pizzalatte makes S1-2 in 2014-2015>plots centering around epstein type shit, pedos in power, sex trafficking rings, etc>2016 happens, trump election, podesta emails and pizzagate blows up>true detective comes back after a 4 year hiatus>plot of S3 ends up being "haha actually there was no child sex trafficking ring at all it was all an honest mistake :^)"idk you can't tell me that shit is a coincidence.
>>219850055Thematically and aesthetically s2 is okIt's just an uninteresting mess for most of the way though and I can't take vince vaungh's character seriously
>>219851875I believe it
>>219850055I always praised season 2. I have nothing to apologise for.
The problem with season 2 is that it can't stand alone from the series it belongs to. It HAD to have a downer ending because the first season did not, and if you're going to make a collection of stand alone seasons that maintain suspense, you can't have the audience knowing the formula in advance. So it ended up feeling dependent on the earlier, superior season and indicating a general decline.
>>219852605I think it stands really well on its own, actually.
>>219852605what the fuck are you talking about?it's the only follow up season that does stand on it's own3 and 4 are both retreads of season 1 that literally rely on season 1 to the point of loose, direct follow ups that mention the events of that season directly
>>219852605Never go full retard
>>219852747What I'm observing is that the artistic direction in 2, and even its ending, were defined by the need to differentiate it from season 1. Because if it were not different enough, the show would become formulaic. Season 1 was independent from any sort of meta pressure. Season 3 drowned in that pressure, but it was extrememly visibile even in 2; you were just too dumb to see it.
>>219851766This series gave me blue balls of the… something
>>219853035yes, you're correct in the fact that the show was originally intend to be an actual anthology with the general theme of "dark, spooky crime" or whatever you are incorrect in the sense that season 2 is not a standalone storyit's especially weird to say such a thing when, again, season 3 and 4 are actually directly connected to season 1 textually, as well as meta-textually aping the format of season 1unlike season 2
>>219850055as opposed to fake detective?
>>219853175This is a strawman, and I'm sorry to say that I honestly think you're too dumb or too young to understand what I was saying.
Season 2 is my favorite and only gets better on rewatch
>>219853210I think you might have autism, because you're making a strange and irrelevant point.I did not choose to wear a blue shirt today because I wore a red one yesterday. The use of today's shirt, while indeed being a different shirt from yesterday's, does not hinge upon the color or even existence of yesterday's shirt
>>219853436Back at you, dipshit. Your choices about shirts has nothing to do with the showrunner's choices. They're entirely independent from one another, and the logic you used to make that choice says nothing about the logic the showrunners used. You're either 15, or legitimately retarded.
>>219853483Your entire point also assumes the intent of other people, when it's more likely seasons 1 and 2 existed in script or the form of lose plot notes at the same time roughly and before the show was ever picked up by HBOThe show (not the showrunners) DID in fact become reactionary in the way you suggest, but only after season 2 being such a departure, which again is most likely not BECAUSE of season 1in the same way that American Horror Story's second season being set in an Asylum is not BECAUSE season 1 was not set in an asylumThese are correlated, different things can be different, irrespective of each otherYour point also hinges on TD season 1 having a "good" ending and TD season 2 having a "bad" ending, which is childish way to read those endingsAgain, autism
>>219853256those scenes where a shitty band is just playing for 5 minutes were so boring and gay
>>219853695You're just butthurt that you weren't perceptive enough to pick it up in 2, and you're not fooling anyone.
>Velcoro>been calling him Velcro for yearsWHY DIDN'T SOMEBODY TELL ME
>>219853701Filtered
>>219853784You have autism. And you think the ending where they kill some low end member of an untouchable international child sex sacrifice cult is "happy" whereas the ending where a handful of corrupt cops are exposed and would definitely be subject to actual criminal charges is the "bad" ending
I sold my soul for nothing
>>219850055I M O, true detective is strongest when it's about reexamining a closed or cold case and the story is told in a non-linear narrative jumping between decades and showing how the characters age and change as people. the seasons about investigating a case "in the now" don't have the same kind of magic. therefore:1 > 3 > 2 > > > > > power gap > > > > > literal shit > 4
>>219853907it’s happy because it showed hope and pushed it to the audience to make the next move in the real world to actually take down the real world equivalents. and the audience did just that, voting in 2016 and 2020 (though it was illegally nullified) and 2024 to fight that fight. And thanks to our work we don’t have to worry about people like Epstein and Podesta getting away with it anymore. They’re all cooked and those not yet wiped will be rounded up once they’ve been drained of all connecting info.
>>219851875confirmed
>>219853256Kino>>219853701You have shit tastes. Capeshit might be more your speed
>>219853701I can understand hating S2 but those were some of the few kino scenes along with the final scenes in the desert and forest
>>219851875They made him scrap the original plan for season 2 because it was too close to the truth.
>>219853256I missed this scene
>>219850055ive actually had the inverse opinion where i loved this when it came out and regarded it as a lynchian schizo masterpiece, but rewatching it a year ago i thought it was complete dogshit and i couldnt believe i ever liked it. i think i was just high off my own farts or something
>>219854889The fact that isrealis were involved and dropped quickly in the plot suggests this is true
>>219851875No doubt they got in trouble for making the first one and had to dial it back.
I like to shit on it as much as anyone else here but it’s honestly good overall. I thought the fakeout bean bag shotgun cliffhanger they did was retarded as was the ending but it’s got good bones and good style.
>>219852747season 4 doesn't exist.
>>219855221Also nobody but me seems to remember the scene where Vince Vaughn gets yelled at by a crowd of black kids. That happened right?
Good or bad, no question it was the last non-woke thing maybe HBO has ever done
I refuse to apologise because I enjoyed season 2 despite its flaws. Even season 3 was mostly pretty good. It's a shame they stopped there but maybe it's for the best.
>>219855312If you haven't seen it i highly recommend "The Night Of" miniseries. It's got Riz Ahmed and John Turturro it's so fucking good and definitely not woke
>>219850055definitely better than season 4
>>219855407the plot is on a level of retarded that's hard to quantify. literally every single thing that happens is because they don't even bother to look at any CCTV footage in new york.
