Yes for whatever she was filming the rape scene was gratuitous but it's pretty important to the movie itself. She's explicitly debased which pushes her agent and the ugly guy over the edge.

There are literally dozens of 80s-90s 7/10 thrillers that nobody even remembered but this gets overrated to an insane degree solely because it's anime.
