>>
>>219878140
Terrifier 3 yes. Actually a great film even though it could have had some tits.
>>
>>219878164
This movie is actually very good. It just needed a fancier director to get it on par with the Wailing and the other korean movie. Sometimes a movie is very good but a gifted director can really turn the film into classic or legendary status.
>>
>>219878198
not even the first? i'd wait til the 4th one releases and marathon them all, it'll be a good time
>>
almost missed the new thread
>>219877911
interesting take.
Why?
I'd put green room, besides the obvious supsense thrillers, into maybe the terror kino sub genre. In this case more like a reverse home invasion movie. But it definetely falls into horror imho.
Climax on the other hand. Well it's not that easy to classify. Noe has a way to make his viewers feel more and more anxiety throughout his movies and this one is no exception.
I'll have to admit that I was on psychedelics while watching it for the first (and only) time so the uneasy camera angles in the later half of the movie, together with the general bad vibes and paranoia between the characters made it a very uncomfortable watch. That's the kind of impact that I am expecting from his movies though, so no dissapointment on my part.
Maybe drama, tragedy?
I mean I wouldn't call Melancholia a horror movie.
But climax a horror? Mmmhhhh, maybe. Would like to hear your thoughts on it though.

Based Mel Brooks producing The Elephant Man and this with a simple "Brooksfilm" card at the beginning and calling no further attention to himself so as not to sully the dramatic content with his comedy-famous name. "Hi, I'm the famous comedy director jew Mel Brooks. I'd now like to present the most metal ending that any film has ever had."
>>
What does /hor/ think?
Is the guest a horror movie?
I'd say yes, in parts.
>>
anyone else hyped for the new evil dead movie?
>>
>>219878389
I'm keeping my expectations low.
But so far I wasn't disappointed by any of the evil dead movies. Not even evil dead rise. All of them were at least good, if not great movies.
>>
>>219878383
It's insane I was just thinking about this movie, and I scroll 3 seconds later and see this post. The Guest is a perfect movie, lightning in a bottle, extremely good. It's horror in parts, it's partially a slasher movie. But not overtly horror.
>>
>>219878290
honestly i'd have to watch Green Room again, but i think Climax comfortably fits into the psychological horror subgenre, where as the former i thought just lacked enough traditional horror elements to label it as such

Just finished. I was pretty bored during the first hour despite being a Wirkola fan. There's plenty of action during, I guess I'm just not a fan of this mini-genre that also includes Bait and Crawl of kinda Animal Home Invasion movies. Just got back from The Mummy.
Imagine your family dog getting run over in a clumsy accident by your father. A sad, painful memory of a pointless nihilistic event with no real silver lining or positive spin. Now imagine some hotshot director making a 2hr+ SFX-laden extravaganza out of it! Would that be cool? Would it be entertaining to see your mother weep before bed in 4K?
Anyway The Mummy has all the tonal confusion of Evil Dead Rise, but longer, boring, cheap, occasionally kino. I'd describe it as EDR meets Herditary and Martyrs. It gets real twisted, I actually felt sad for the child actress for having to be part of the degeneracy at one point.
On the other hand, the direction is like ED on steroids and the SFX are great.
I also thought the ending made no sense.
>>

>>
>>219885982
this is from Wikipedia :

>The film follows a family who is reunited with their long-missing, mummified daughter and realize something is wrong with her.

So was she always mummified? Like being mummified and missing AREN'T something wrong with her?
Lel the fuck kinda sentence is that?
>>
>>219886052
It's essentially comedy, it's just very mean comedy, like Raimi does. Cronin doesn't wink at you as much about it as Raimi does, but if you're paying attention, you can't help but laugh at how excessively things are done. I'm thinking of the filling of the champagne glass at the wake or Grandma's dentures on the floor.
>>
>>219886083
Major spoilers: the girl was abducted by a family that have been keeping a demon imprisoned for generations by keeping him trapped inside a living person that they "mummify" and keep in a sarcophagus for the rest of their life. The mummy they had at the start of the movie has come to the end of its lifespan so they need a new host. They lose the sarcophagus in a plane crash and that's how the family gets the girl back, who's now literally possessed.
The movie plays out like an exorcism movie except the demon is Egyptian. It feels like a new Evil Dead movie more than anything.
>>
>>219886105
Oh I figured that was the plot from the trailer, but I just mean that the plot description on wiki is worded in such a way as to imply that being mummified is just a normal thing for their daughter. Eg.
>The film follows a family who is reunited with their long-missing, oldest daughter and realize something is wrong with her.

See what I mean when you swap mummified out for any other qualifier?
>>
>>219886052
You know that WKYK grapist skit, where at the end the producer is like, "A grape whistle? idk guys I still think it's too much". I feel like that convo happened at the test screening but EDR made like $150m and everyone's looking at Terrifier going "the people want suffering!"
>>219886085
Rant about the ending I just thought it was dumb that the film lines up the magic woman as evil. She's trying to keep an ancient evil trapped, you could say she's the good guy. And so the mom doing a heel turn at the end is just more "dog getting run over" nihilism.
For context The Evil Dead is maybe my all time favourite horror. Even ED2013 I thought was awesome.

The Undertone probably wouldn't have been a great pick either, though would have scared her witless. It's like a low budget version of Sinister.

Undertone is basically a bunch of slow pans, one or two spooky figures in the background, some super slow zooms on religious iconography, cameras clocked 33 degrees to the left, a gay sounding guy rattling off creepypasta fnaf lore for a podcast that these two halfwits take about three weeks to record for a weekly release apparently, and then a bunch of crying baby sounds in some really thick room tone while people scream about a family planning roe v wade demon. It was very very feminine. Not scary at all.

You didn't read the case and your IQ is too low to understand how it applies. Other cases have upheld that unless it's a direct incitement to violence (ex: I'm going to kill you/shoot you/stab you/rape you/punch you, etc.) then it's protected under free speech. Man, I dunno. They all bring their own unique flair to the role.
Schrek had excellent body language and presence. He really made Orlock seem otherworldly and unnatural.
Krinski gave Orlock pathos and made him wretched and dangerous at the same time. He’s pitiable, but still repulsive.
Dafoe gives Orlock a weird, dark sense of humor and both looked and acted like something that’d been living in a cave for centuries. He was more creepy and disgusting than scary, but that worked in that story.
Skarsgård’s Orlock is by far the most intimidating. He’s both an ancient undead sorcerer and a contemptuous malicious aristocrat. Easily the most malevolent of the 4 versions.

afaik there's only one watchable full moon crossover film and it's kind of indirect spiritual crossover
>>
>>219900950
Blood Dolls is unironically one of the more entertaining late-era Full Moon joints because it fully leans into the sleaze instead of pretending there’s a coherent shared universe.

If we’re counting “spiritual crossover” then yeah, that’s probably as close as it gets to Puppet Master actually feeling connected without being one of those bargain-bin clip show mashups they pumped out in the 2000s. The actual vs. movies are borderline unwatchable unless you grew up renting them from a dying Blockbuster and have stockholm syndrome.

At least Blood Dolls has that mean-spirited Charles Band energy and the puppets aren’t just standing around waiting for bad CGI lightning. It knows it’s junk and kind of revels in it.

Full Moon should’ve stayed in the “cheap but nasty” lane instead of trying to do Marvel on a $37 budget.
>>
>>219901242
its one of my all time favorite full moon flicks, the cast is perfect and all understand the tone without going real tongue in cheek about it. its especially weird and feels like an extremely sleazy production but its more competent than most of the franchise sequels.

i'm pretty sure the reason they were able to go so hard in the 90s was them using super cheap labor in post commie bloc shitholes and had funding from paramount. its why they went from having casts of primarily nobodies, to d and c listers and a lot of B listers, back to almost exclusively nobodies
