>>219886686I remember back in what must have been the winter of 98', I was a smoll milk drinking anon of 10 years old, raised out in the woods and reviewing the toy selection while I was in town with my dad. It was probably Fred Meyers but I feel like it was Carrs Safeway. They had beast wars and micro machines and such along with the actual star wars figures (fuckers used to be like, 4.99 apiece. Beast wars were 6.99 for the basic beasts) but ANYWAYS they had a "secret preview" battle droid and his skimmer on the shelf and I bought it for like 10 bucks with my allowance and it was the FIRST that I heard about episode 1. They also had a mace window preview figure with the purple light saver but I think you had to send in some barcodes from other figures to have him sent to you so he was a little rarer. Before this point I had seen the original movies a couple of times and I thought they were cool but it was a whole different thing when episode one came around and they had the marketing push that I remember being bigger and stronger than just about anything I've seen in 20 years at least. I buried a shit ton of those Pepsi cans with the faces on them out in a dryer underground somewhere too.Zoomers will never know what it was like to be 10ish when Pokemon and Episode 1 blasted down the doors to reality like the koolaid man.
