That's why it always pisses me off when writers feel the need to kill off characters just to establish stakes or to force drama. Like for example I was watching Tremors with some friends. It shows you that poor old couple who were just enjoying a night out together getting slowly eaten and their entire car devoured. That's to let the audience know how dangerous these creatures are, but what about that poor old couple? No one will even know what happened to them. If they had family they just stopped hearing from them and will never have any closure. There was that mean kid in the main town who's dad got eaten. You're supposed to not care because the kid was mean but he's got no father now. And the shop owner.
