>>219887993BLOOD IS ON THE WALL, BERATNAS!
Books > ShowAlso, I keep getting videos recommended in my feed that the show might come back. Is there any truth to this, or is it just slop?
>>219887993I should really do a rewatch.
>>219888498They can bring the show back at any time. They saved detailed files to recreate sets, props, etc. The story is finished, and it has a big time gap for the next part. So actors looking older even fits better. They're releasing a game soon that should generate a lot of interest. All it needs is another network to pick it up.
>>219888727Yeah, im hoping the game doing well sparks renewed calls to finish the laconia ark. They could spread that out and fluff it up quite a bit, not necessarily only 1 season per book.
>>219888650I thought she was hideously ugly at first but by season 3 I was hopelessly in love with her
>>219888727For sure, though I feel they kinda show themselves in the foot a bit with the premature introduction of the Laconian storyline in season 6. Honestly they should've shown what we saw there as flashback sprinkled throughout season 7 instead of wasting precious screentime that could've been used elsewhere.
>>219888498there is a 30year timeskip in the books, so yeah they can pick it up whenever. either using new actors or wait long enough/lots of makeup.it just sucks that alex is gone.hell, they could also fill the timeskip with all kinds of stories, they would need to get actually good writers, which seems to be a problem nowadays.
>>219888815*shot
DA BELTA
>>219888727Please not those four morons again. Give me Tom Jane space noir, give me Harris space insurrection, give me Avasarala space politics, give me random new character exploring the galaxy or whatever but NOT the Moron 4. It's a miracle I enjoyed this show in spite of its main cast
>>219888815Eh, that was Amazon's choice. They cut the episode count lower and ended it on something of a cliffhanger to keep people interested if it ever did get picked back up. It was going to be many years before more seasons though, so I'm sure people were happy to finally see some more of the Roman technology on the new worlds finally
>>219888886No, that's not the story. It's like you're asking to replace han, luke, and leia in star wars. Avasarala is in the next book and Tom Jane eventually does make an appearance. Most of the cast are split up and not together.
>>219888844>dubsNot wrong tbdesu. Alex being gone I can live with show-wise, though I still think it's a shame since he was my favourite character. My concern with both bringing back the show now and with the state of modern writers, they'd turn Duarte into a Trump stand-in and really beat us about the head with a "this is bad(tm)" message, which would be a shame because both the Laconian stuff has potential and what we saw in season 6 could lend itself to some really cool ship designs.
>>219887993I laughed really hard when big man side character supplexed that big prisoner guy down the elevator shaft.
>>219888956Han, Luke, Leia and R2-D2 weren't played by charisma vacuums that couldn't act for shit
>>219888498>BooksHow could you people stomach those? They're full of the pitfalls of modern writing. Not only is the main character basically a walking basedjack, but the book is filled with soap opera drama. Don't get me started on Naomi. Her entire purpose seems to be to give lectures to other people and being morally superior to everyone else around her. She has no other purpose. The moment in the second book where Holden crawls back to her and she goes like "I'm glad you see all the things I'm right on, but that's not enough for me" was almost enough to chuck them right then and there. Granted, I've only read the first two books but that was enough for me as far as the franchise is concerned.
>>219888886This. The main cast is the worst thing about The Expanse. Both, in the show and the book. I think they're even worse in the books from what I remember. >>219888956>It's like you're asking to replace han, luke, and leia in star waraThey've done that.
>>219889086>They've done that. And it was a complete fucking disaster. Bravo.
>>219889139Nah. Also, in terms of the expanse it would be a step up. Because unlike the MCs in this space soap, the star wars cast had charisma.
>>219889030The last good writer was Robert Jordan. You might find something online but commercially published works not a chance.
>>219889030While I will concede they're not the deepest or most imaginative books written setting or plot-wise, they do have good degree of thought put into them in terms of a consequentialist narrative surrounding the "one big lie" (the protomolecule and the Ringbuilders) trope. I find they bridge the gap between "ideas-fiction with forgettable characters" and "too much character, not enough setting and lore" hard(ish) sci-fi.At the very least they show that you don't have to lean too deeply into shit like space-opera or FTL to make an engaging sci-fi story.
>>219888776>by season 3 I was hopelessly in love with herWe all were bro.>show loses a ton of watchability the second Thomas Jane stops being a regular>temporarily regains it when Ashford is aroundDid they really carry that hard?
>>219889242Well, he does have a big dick, so...
>>219887993the episodes in which his character appeared were the only thing good in the entire series, at least up until they forced him into that weird relationship with a molecule
>>219889358That happened in the book, anon
>>219889202>most imaginative books written settingI disagree with that. I think they're very imaginative and created a fascinating vision of what the solar system could turn into in the next few centuries. Since ftl travel is not possible, it sure isn't going to be star trek. What other series has tapped into the concept of people living permanently in zero G to the point they are permanently deformed as well as their children? There are humans that are born, live, and die never being on a planet and find the whole idea extremely weird and uncomfortable. Humanity could turn into a space-only civilization. That's an interesting idea. Of course, that all gets scrambled with the rings opening and suddenly providing thousands of free new worlds.
>>219888498I like the new book series they started, the setup is pretty cool.
>Oye why the pinché hat bosmang?>It keeps the rain off my head.
>>219889242It's funny that Ashford is a loser in the books and only in the third one. They did a good job making him and Drummer way better in the show
>it doesn't matta who we are >wotmatta is our plan
>>219888727NETFLIX FUCKING DO SOMETHING
>>219889394>I think they're very imaginative Bro...>some people live on earth >some people live in space>O no there's a rift between the two >and then dead space happens Bravo! 10/10 for imagination! Btw, Gundam, a Chinese cartoon from the 70s did the premise better. Except that entire "weird alien shit that constantly changes so please keep reading. You won't BELIEVE what it does next!" that the japs were too smart to pull. The only reason the expanse is even known is because it has a beta male protagonist surrounded by strong women, which is just too modern to pass up by publishers and stations.
>>219889553kek, no. You're very reductionist and contrarian.
>>219889394The books yes (even if I think they could've done more with the political differentiation), the show not as much. I get the limited budget and screentime arguments regarding the lack of mechs in the show (they're a lot more prominent in the books), for example. Compared to a lot of other sci-fi, it is leagues ahead when it comes to grounding it in some degree of realism without it becoming NASA-punk.
>>219889553>GundamThat's one of my criticisms of at least the show (they hint at things akin to ONeill cylinders existing in the books), as those would technically be easier to build than spinning up the likes of Ceres and especially Eros to provide gravity for those whom inhabit those places.
We need them to make more cat season recaps
>>219889553You sound rather bitter, anon
poor Shed...
>Still one of the only piece of scifi space opera that tries its best to obey real life physics when it comes to space travel, gravity and suchWe really didn't know how good we had itWhen I first saw Miller in Season 1 pouring some whiskey in a glass and the liquid kinda twirls around slowly in the glass to reflect Ceres low gravity was kind of mind blowingI don't know any other movie or show that did thisOf course it is not a 100% scientifically accurate, there are still scifi gobbledygook concepts and inaccuracies, but they actually tried making it as realistic as possible, space feels dangerous as it should be in that show
>show bobs and vagene, hoss>gets fired>disappear from the face of the earth forever irlhe's a jeet but i'm sad for him, this is why you never try to mingle with girls at your work place, anything can happen
>>219889711Yeah it's one of the few shows outside of the likes of For All Mankind or shows focusing on near-future possibilities that acknowledge that space is fuckin' dangerous to humans, even down to the tyranny of distance and water. My biggest problem with a lot of especially modern sci-fi is that it treats space as "just another place" and ignores how alien it is to people like us.
>>219889711I loved that stuff. They have people fall due to unexpected or high acceleration. Loose items fly around the cabins as hazards. The ships built like buildings. The flip and burns. All makes for great scifi viewing. I can forgive the engines simply because travel time is ridiculous even with them.

Why did they stop the show without adapting the last 3 books? I know it became way shittier once Amazon got it, but at least they had the budget nowSurely, it didn't drop in ratings THAT much for Amazon to just are it?
>>219890122TBdesu Amazon seems like a nicer master than mother fucking syfy. I'm still bitter about what they did to the most kino Stargate show, which allowed The Expanse to be made to begin with.
>>219890122It didn't drop in ratings. There were enough hardcore fans for Amazon to pick it up and give it a shot. But not enough new fans materialized for Amazon to want to continue. So they wrapped it up and cut the final season short. It's an expensive show to make.
>have a cool setting>basically the closest thing to a Mass Effect TV show>have a plot that allows you to explore new universes, cool ancient ayy lmaos and their tech, etc cool shit>lets just make it all about boring politics, make the main "villain" a retarded space Che Guevara and shitty family dramaSeriously, what the F*CK were they thinking...?!

If Drummer were book accurate, she'd be 7 feet tall
Bobbie is even more muscular in the books. She's on roids and samoan. She's a beast

>>219895431there just arent enough freak looking actors to cast and they dont have the budget to properly make them in CGI, it was a decision for the better
>>219895695Wormholes shit is a necessary evil if you want to have your characters explore new horizons beyond the solar systemAnd btw the ships in this show go really really fast so the scifi isn't even that hard to begin withA real life one way travel from Earth to Neptune for instance, at the speed of the ISS (28.000km/h) would last 18 fucking yearsMeanwhile in the show it's a matter of months, maybe a year at worst
>>219895844Its fantasy on the tier of dune, MCU or harry potter, "hard" sci fi is a cope incels tell themselves
>>219895841Yes and no. It fundamentally fucks up the entire Belter storyline. Now everyone who watches just views them as normal folk that are whiny rather than deformed lanky freaks who are almost alien compared to inners. And all adaptations run with the show depiction even when they can change it easily, like the games still have belters looking like regular people

Corey's (authors of The Expanse books & tv show & execs at Alcon) NEW sci-fi trilogy called The Captive's War, absolutely unrelated to The Expanse btw. It's kind of a clusterfuck, but at least Amazon still appears to be on good terms with Alcon.IF the 2027 game does well (why wouldn't it, it's made by Owlcat, their RPGs are pretty popular, but tbf they usually make top down turn-based combat RPGs, not third person shooters) and IF The Captive's War pulls relatively good ratings, I'm 100% sure Alcon will try to negotiate for the last 3 books to be adapted. And I'm 100% the old cast would be up for it.

>>219900008Yup, everything is plausible and based off current understand of physics and what could be possible. It made it far more interesting to me than just the usual star trek tech that doesn't even pretend to match reality.

>>219900628are you that fucking retard that thinks they know physics based on feeling vibes?
>>219900214Honestly the 'harder' sci-fi aspects I find raise more questions than the likes of the protomolecule or the slowzone, because while implausible, Clarke's 3rd law can apply to them and their function. The PDCs and the lack of ONeill cylinders on the other hand...Like the fight between the Roci and the Pella is really cool to watch, but it leaves me wondering if PDC ammunition is gyrojet-type, since the Pella would be at a distinct disadvantage to the Roci as the latter's bullets can not only effortlessly dispose of torpedoes, but also significantly harm the Pella itself as all the ships are under acceleration.
>>219900742You could've just said yes.
>>219889711The pouring isn't curved because of low gravity. It is because of the Coriolis effect which comes from the spin gravity generated on ceres. If I recall correctly people are also standing on the ceiling and their heads are towards the core relative to the surface of the planet.
>>219887993looks like that kid who did the based dance for stacey who was later bit by a shark
>>219901065Yes, and Miller talks about the Coriolis being worse or better depending on the levels or how far you are from center of the station. Plus the dying patches of grass because of thieves stealing water. I love that stuff in Expanse. It's so trivial but it's stuff real people would experience daily. Or Prax seeing people eat the plants which aren't nutritious and only for the air supply, so they're actually screwing themselves over
I'm like 300 pages into the first book and there's no way I'll ever finish the series. Hell, I don't think I'll push into book 2. I like it but it's just too damn long. Next step is way station or lathe of heaven

>>219911880Nobody should be wasting time on 12,000 pages of mediocre fantasy
>>219911936I barely have the attention span for a 200 page bookI don't even know how I got through two books of the Hyperion Cantos
>>219911804And yet Clarkson's Farm is more popular
>>219903465Literally the only Belter who knew what nation building looked like.
>>219902587Very true
For me, it's the Agatha King
>>219889974Naomi and Holden were completely miscast. Amos technically too but Chatham did good work and put his own spin on the character that worked.
>>219911835The awesome book space battles are in your head. Oh wait, you're one of those "can't envision the apple in your mind" types huh? Yikes.
>>219911252Monica was lovely
>>219911658>>219911745There are plenty of conflicts with them during the 30 year time jump though. They're just boring and mundane. Shit like people not wanting to obey the rules of the transport union and having to face consequences like their ring being blockaded which could kill the colony. Otherwise is just calms down for a while and people just set to building new worlds which is fine and realistic after all that bloodshed
>>219889972In Mad Men he played a whining chud who kills himself because he couldn't pay alimony or something
>>219902848everything that made the expanse interesting like 3 different factions of earth mars and the belt is reduced to the problems of the dueterte family and james holden.its just like how starwars stopped being a universe and is simply the problems of the skywalkers/palpatines.
Why did we get a brief episode of Ashford fucking Carmella Soprano and then it just cuts to him being a porn producer in L.A? Took me right out of the season.
>>219914297She 's a bluff bow, lovely lines. She's a fine spaceship.
>>219887993They did the noir detective pretty well. Everyone being a terrorist was also fun but then its just a mom yelling at her son which got boring.
>>219911745>>219914481With a strong setting like the Ring Gate Gold Rush, they wouldn't even necessarily have to focus on the Roci crew. They could make infinite 1 season "specials" aka. spin-offs with some Mommasarala/Spindadrum cameos sprinkled in. Easy money.
>>219915394That's what the novellas were for. The books did stuff like that. Naomi's son even goes off to live on one of those colonies under a fake name. But the show barely had a budget for the regular seasons without being canceled
>>219914536Nope. There's still the ring space, all the colonies and Earth trying to haphazardly coordinate to fight Laconia. But Laconia is so overpowered that it's of course going to dominate. Still very interesting seeing them try to take over and establish a government over everyone. And still investigate the new ring systems and ancient builder artifacts. Plus dealing with the Goth aliens that Duarte mistakenly thinks he can also dominate. It's great and a natural evolution and raising of stakes. You can't just have a story always be the same shit forever.

>>219914297We need an Expanse strategy game where we can put fleets of ships against each other in long rangr bvr missile battles
So, I just recently got into the show, never bothered with anything esle form the universe, book and whatnot, but i just saw theres a game coming out? Is that shit going to be based on those books that havent been adapted by the show, or jus completely new story? I have 2 episodes left from season 6 and im kinda hyped for the game
>>219914536That Andor was able to exist I think you could spin off expanse stuff in the 30 year period between the inaros crisis and duerte's rise to power just fine
>>219919604New story from what I've seen
>>219919604>>219920373It's a new story set before the show started. So it's more the "normal" time before the found the alien goop. Just flying around the system and exploring the various factions with missions. Looks cool
finished book 5 the other day, it was okayfor ranking i would say 1 > 2 > 5 > power gap > 4 > 3
>>219920635Thats sounds pretty lame for an rpg game?I was hoping its gonna be a new mass effect, actually capitalizing on the cool ancient alien tech and new worlds and creatures to explore that the show didn't capitalize much on, it'd be perfect for a game...
>>219921014The majority of players would be brand new to the series and have no idea what it's about, so aliens would spoil everything. Trying to set it after the show is even worse spoilage since you haven't even read the books and don't know what happens. There is plenty of fun stories to tell without aliens. The alien tech has always evem been just a catalyst for fighting and tension between the human factions. If the game does well, there can always be sequels and making the last three seasons of the tv show.
>>219888498the show is great.as long as the indian cunt, the samoan cunt, the black cunt, and the main character aren't on the screen
>>219889030you really wanna use the words "main character" when defending this show?
>>219920740I wish Cameron would make an Expanse movie. With his Avatar motion capture tech he could size up the Belters to be enormous and lanky
>>219895431Like most modern shows the Expanse's production has a massive drop in quality after the first season. The good shows stay good for several more seasons, the bad ones pivot to shitty melodrama a la Naomi
>>219902257Holden and Naomi are fucking godawful.
>>219889639that cat would've played a much better Holden
>>219889711>cool gimmicks, with bad plot and horrible characterssad
>>219922168That's not true. The show increases in quality every season. The cgi gets better, battles get better, actors find their footing with the characters. The story is already written and necessarily changes each season so that's just you being upset that it wasn't what you had in your head
>>219922100who the fuck hates alex or bobbi?
>>219923809I liked Bobbie in the final books. Her arc on Mars as it's falling apart was kinda lame. But it was necessary to show all the crime and despair as everyone was leaving the planet and giving up on Mars
>>219922168False, the show actually peaked several times during later seasons, the only low point was the way too heavy focus on Naomi's perspective during the last story arc. Get rocked with your faggot opinion.
i hate belters and batarians so fucking much, its unreal...

>>219928289What’s happening here? Can you show me, or is it bad news? I want to finish it before the real problems start, before I go to the OPA and the UN raids. I will stay serious and focused. I can act like a gorilla, but I’m the sniper boss for the OPA. There’s nothing for me to do but keep moving. I’ll use precise shots like a sniper and aim at the enemy, showing them what's up. Do you think this is all part of a bigger plan for me, related to the network? Think about it, buddy. Now, I’m tracking the secret spy network, and I can trace their IP to where they’re operating—preparing for an attack in the storm. The storm will disrupt their communications. When I catch them, they won’t know what hit them. I can be calm, cold, and focused, and I’ll be able to make a precise strike. If I can, I’ll let the storm take care of them, so I can show them what happens when they mess with the OPA.This mission is part of a greater revenge. But I have to focus, do my job, and not give away the game. I’ll deal with the fury later, once I’ve tracked them down.

>>219928230Like most Belters, he was always a retard. The embodiment of their unwashed masses. He's there to remind us that Naomi, Drummer, Ashford, etc. are all exceptional and that we should hate and fear the belters because they truly are scum.
>>219932222They truly are the worst. We should genocide them right now.
>>219932222>>219932283>they say unironically not seeing how they sound exactly like belters complaining about inners and championing killing all Earthers
>>219932518Except belters objectively are the worst. Not all calls to violence are equal.
Diogo was cool and a tragic story. You losers have no empathy. You just see a young man and pre-judge him saying he was bound to end up terribly so you should always kill him. Then you're confused why they think the same about you. Diogo was simply trying to get by in a shitty situation with lots of bad influences. Miller was a good influence on him and set him on a good path. Then Martians came along and as usual treat belters like shit. They fucked up Diogo's uncle causing him to die. Now Diogo has nothing except to join the OPA. And of course they're becoming more radicalized daily because of how they're treated by Inners. He's following orders of people he trusts and thinks he's doing what's right just like everyone else is. The kid gets killed and we're supposed to cheer, but he's following Ashford's orders (who we like) even though Ashford is acting like a complete moron at the time. So yes, it's an interesting arc. The kid was just trying to find his place in an unforgiving universe, and if a few things had gone differently would have still been best buddies with the Roci crew instead of dying. There, now you've been spoon fed.
