Do old TVs do anything better than new TVs?
>>219891818way more soul and better for teh eyes. most people these days live under flickering led lights who beam at them x1000 a minute and rapes their eyes
>>219891818A lot of people say that the top level CRT computer monitors are far superior to the modern flatscreens, especially for videogames.
>>219891818they display old media slightly better. i like crts but for example find filters in video game emulators to almost indiscernible from the real thing. since fidelity is a meme, od tvs can display some media forms in a better manner than shitty flatscreens.
>>219891818they are technologically much more interesting
>>219891818>"old" TV>doesn't even have a dial for fine-tuning reception
>>219891843>the TVs that literally gave millions of kids vision problems for sitting too close to the TV are actually the good TVsOkay boomer
>>219891818Turn electricity into heat?
>>219891962Kids today don't need to wear glasses?
>>219891818>>219891867When CRTs refresh they refresh every single pixel while LCDs don't. So for many years it was argued that CRTs (even average CRTs that were given away for free, they didn't have to be top level) were better than LCDs for gaming. However over the past couple of years LCDs have improved to the point where I think even budget LCDs are simply better than CRTs now. They have significantly faster overall refresh rates and I think they now also update more. So they really were still the best for many years after the plebs were all drinking the lcd kool-aid, but the wheel of time turns and eventually lcds are just better period, I wanna say 7 or 8 years ago crts started to just get hard to defend as an option. For retro games however it may be preferable to play them on a CRT simply for the correct look and exact timing. CRTs also used to have significantly better contrast ratios. I'm not sure if LCDs are as good now.
>>219891818They do low resolution better I guess.
>>219891818Yes, they tickle your nostalgia receptors. That's about it.
>>219892243For games the CRT has a much faster response time, it's not just the refresh rate but the latency from controller to computer to CRT is much better. This makes no real difference for watching television & film, but it can make a huge difference when playing a game where twitch reflexes are the key. >CRTs also used to have significantly better contrast ratios. I'm not sure if LCDs are as good now.CRTs were fully black on black pixels, but even the best LCDs are like 99% black on black pixels. It's really tragic that we don't have a surviving niche CRT industry to make gaming monitors. Some people have been buying up old CRTs and refurbishing them for this, but this will just get more rare and expensive over time. At a certain point it will be cost competitive to set up a new CRT factory, but who knows when or if that will even happen?
>>219891962It wasn’t the tvs doing that, it was the lack of exposure to natural light. Human eyes evolved to expect x amount of radiation over time to develop properly.
>>219891843>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_light_spectrum>The blue light spectrum, characterized by wavelengths between 400 and 500 nanometers, has a broad impact on human health
>>219891818They don't spy on you.
>>219891843I remember when computer LCD screens started becoming the norm it was common for people who were not used to them to get sick after using them for a while for the first time
>>219891818run super smash bros melee. literally unplayable on new tvs
>>219891818retro game pixel graphics were designed for CRT screens and the graphics look like eyerape on new monitors.
>>219891818Channel changes were instant. You could scroll through every channel so fast to see what's on like a speed run.
>>219891818No. 0. Anyone telling you otherwise is a deranged CRTfag.
>>219891818Generating happiness.
CRT is a much better technology than LCD.1) Perfect black levels2) Flawless off-axis viewing3) Much faster refresh rate than LCD4) Warmer, more natural image (thanks to scan lines and small granules)5) Far longer life-span6) Not subject to manufacture problems such as dead-pixels7) Good range of compatibility with lower or non-standard resolutions without blurringGiven ultimate space and money the world's best CRT could easily crush the world's best LCD. So tell me /g/, why do you like your inferior screens that companies such as Samsung have brainwashed you to think is better than what already existed? The only cost-savings are on their end.And the funny thing is you guys keep buying this crappy LCD technology and giving away your free CRTs on Craigslist. A fool and his dollar are soon parted I guess. And before you start yapping about IPS panels:Enjoy your slow G2G response to switch pixels already, not to mention that hidden input and scalar lag. Luckily, CRT has no such bullshit. The only semi-legitimate point I've heard against CRTs regards weight, but you don't bitch about the weight of a prospective couch while furniture shopping, do you? Didn't think so.>>219892550CRTs don't have pixels, newfag. The liquid crystal Jew also destroyed superior SED technology.
>>219893629motion clarity is objectively superior on tubes compared to led’s, idk why anyone would deny this. and apart from tvs, crt monitors are still the only displays that can multiscan without scaling, so equally sharp visuals across different resolutions.
>>219893899excellent post
>>2198938991040 HD Plasma>>>>>>>>>>>>>>HDCRT 4x3>CRT>everything elsepioneer elite 4eva
>>219891818When you rub your hand on the screen you feel static electricity because they’re alive and generating energy.
>>219894039I wrote that copy pasta almost 20 years agof-fuck
>>219891818Internal speakersNowadays you basically need a soundbar or you'll have an on-the-fritz speaker game that doesn't really get very loud.
>>219891818Zero motion blur and they don't have fixed resolutions.Old content looks significantly better on a CRT. Games and video content alike.
>>219893985>so equally sharp visuals across different resolutions.Modern GPUs only just started allowing integer scaling so you don't have to look at a smeared mess when you choose a non-native resolution, i can't believe it took this long...Modern screens are a joke.
>>219891818Withstand accidental knocks. Few toddlers were able to accidentally destroy an old TV, but modern TVs are super fragile.
Plasma was never good except maybe when it was brand new
CRTs are cool. Who wouldn't want a particle accelerator in their living room lol?
>>219891818>Do old TVs do anything better than new TVs?>>219891867they redraw the image line by line instead of every single pixel updating at the same time.the effect of pointing a camera at a crt and the image looks all wacky, or when a helicopter blade looks like it's still is due to the shutter rate sync with the constantly moving image.the other main thing a crt does better is display media made and mastered to be displayed on crt, things like vhs/dvd/laserdisk/betamax etc.
>>219895848The sound is awful on my flat TV, I noticed that right away after getting rid of my old big TV.It's actually crazy how bad it is.
>>219891843>way more soul and better for teh eyesWhere do you niggers come from, CRTs were shit. Imagine crapping on literal improvements we have in technology because it’s not as shitty as the stuff you had when you were 5.
old tvs lasted forever. ive gone through more tvs in the last decade than i owned the 25 years prior.
>>219891818retrogamingretro tv that haven't gotten hd transfers yet (Xena, Hercules, Sliders, The Pretender, etc)
You have to remember zoomers don't know how to use brightness or contrast settings so they think crt visuals have some kind of retro aesthetic value.
>>219900466Mine all still work but they've developed weird quirks. One tv the volume controls the channels and the channel buttons control the volume. The other one will turn itself off and on randomly, it's fucking possessed.
>>219891818I'm currently playing FFX via PS2 on my 27" Trinitron CRT TV and it looks amazing in 240p via RGB Scart. The colours really pop, even though the TV is from 1989. The FFX Remaster is apparently pretty bad, so I'm glad to play the original game on the intended hardware.
