Nah, for the old school revolver guys they could load a round in the chamber, de-cock it, and holster it for double action use. For the anal they could keep the thumb safety engaged until they drew down on a target. Nice features. I hated the thumb safety due to it being small as fuck, so I just loaded, de-cocked and holstered as if it were a revolver.

It’s a model 1911 chambered in 9mm
The lower receiver is split into an alloy frame that has the rails and trigger group and a polymer grip module to accept double stack magazines
They were pretty niche custom race/competition guns for a long time until STI turned into Staccato and Nighthawk Customs had gained enough traction that they started to get popular
You can do some unique shit with them like port the barrels and compensate them, allowing you to put very weak recoil springs in so that they shoot soft and flat and can be air-racked
None are drop-safe and I think they’re all stupid

There isn’t one. 2011s used to be made by chopping the grip off a 1911 so as to allow you to fit a double stack magazines in it. They were mostly hand-fitted, custom boutique race guns. The two piece grip is a holdover from that pedigree of frankensteining a 1911 frame.

>There was a small period time when the FBI chose to use revolvers. I don't get quite get it.
The French GIGN gendarmerie uses revolvers.
Each member practices with the revolvers everyday, to the point were the some of the revolvers have 1,000,000 rounds fired thru them.
They use revolvers because GIGN is involved in hostage rescue, and diplomatic protection, and other jobs were quick follow ip shots might be necessary, and with revolvers, a misfire doesn’t require clearing the misfired round, all that is needed with a double action revolver, is to pull the trigger again, revolving the revolver cylinder to the next round for a follow up shot.
Also, revolvers are not likely going to have feed issues, particularly with rounds of different powder loads, (other than higher or lower point of aim), and revolvers don’t duffer from “limp wristing” feed issues either.

>The M9 always struck me as a weird, overly complex hangun. A miracle it served as the main service pistol of the US military for nearly 30 years.
The Beretta M9 was used because it had an all metal, fairly durable construction, and the slide opens ip to a huge extraction area, helping to prevent failed extraction issues that can jam the pistol.
Technically, there were issues with the original locking blocks cracking, but that was later fixed with a design or manufacturing change.
Some South African made Vektor pistols used the same Beretta design, and also had issues with cracking locking blocks, so the issue was with the original material specs or design.
Beretta did claim the older US Beretta pistols could be refurbished rather than replaced.
>>
>>219911783
GIGN uses glocks. The MR73 has never seen widespread use with the GIGN. A misfire is also exponentially more dangerous with a revolver because a half-charge or squib will likely not cycle a semiautomatic, whereas you will likely blow up a revolver by firing into a squibbed barrel without realizing it.
The reason DA/SA semiautomatic pistols are still loved is that you retain the ability to fire twice on a light struck primer.
Most of this is fuddlore revolver glaze.

> Technically, there were issues with the original locking blocks cracking, but that was later fixed with a design or manufacturing change.
This was eventually uncovered to be entirely related to the military abusing the living shit out of the M9s. There was no design change for the 92 series, but beretta humored the military by creating the Brigadier series which was totally unnecessary and there was really no reason to thicken the slide, which was why as soon as they narrowed the root cause to “user retardation,” Brigadiers dropped to a semi-collectors item because they were a solution to a nonexistent problem

Do you have to cock the hammer to fire the first round on 1911s?

222 KB PNG
>>219911152
She could shoot my Model 60 if you know what I mean
>>
>>219915314
No, the slide cocks the hammer - to get a round into the chamber you must have had to rack the slide, which must have cocked the hammer
Every time you see a 1911 onscreen with the hammer down, it's a fuckup because 1911s are (with megarare exception) all single action guns, and the trigger doesn't pull the hammer back, only releases it, so the gun isn't actually ready to fire
I see this all the time
>>
>>219909758
In movies it's used by cops in Lethal Weapon and Die Hard.
>>
>>219915421
So in other words if there's a round in battery and you carry it with the hammer down, it won't fire without you cocking it?
>>
>>219915680
Right so
>pulling the trigger only RELEASES the hammer, but doesn't COCK it
>racking the slide (a) extracts & ejects the cartridge in the chamber (b) loads a new cartridge from the magazine into the chamber (c) cocks the hammer
>you can "decock" the hammer by either (a) holding the hammer back with your thumb, pulling the trigger to release it, then carefully lowering it, or (b) using a "decocker" lever to do this safely automatically (if your 1911 has one)
So to get the pistol into a situation where you had a round in the chamber + the hammer lowered, you would have to (1) rack & release the slide the load a cartridge, then (2) lower the hammer with thumb/decocker
And to fire the pistol, you would have to thumb the hammer back first - pulling the trigger hammer down does nothing at all (that's why it's "single-action" - the trigger only does 1 action, which is "release the hammer", whereas other pistols might be "double-action" i.e. pulling the trigger (1) draws the hammer back + (2) releases it)
So yes you're correct, basically
UNLESS the hammer being down is unsafe, and dropping the pistol or tapping the hammer from behind would cause it to set off the round in the chamber - I can't remember if 1911s are dangerous in this way, it has to do with mechanical design, some pistols are (e.g. if the hammer rests against the firing pin when it's down) and some pistols aren't (e.g. if there's a firing pin block that sits inbetween the firing pin and the hammer, which is drawn out of the way when you pull the trigger)
The traditional way you carry a loaded 1911 is round in the chamber + hammer cocked + safety on, called "cocked and locked"

Just saying, but you can order the same handgun with or without a manual safety if you want. Some users just want the trigger safety, and others want an additional manual push button safety

They're all messing with you anon. The Glock range uses the patented "DL" safety system.

"DL" stands for "Don't Load It Till You Really Want To Shoot Something".

Records show that strict DL discipline reduces unintended maiming by up to 25%.

My understanding is in the 70s 80s semi autos were still not completely reliable. So if you wanted something that guaranteed would not fail a revolver might would do the trick. Nowadays semi autos have improved to where it doesn’t really matter plus so they use them now. Gign keeps their revolvers mainly for aura farming

Semiauto pistols have been around since the late 19th century. Even modern semiautos have the capacity to jam (not really a problem if you clean them properly and only use recommended ammo).
But you are correct, a revolver (provided it’s made in a first world country and not fucking Brazil) will almost never, ever fail.

At least we know that John Lennon wouldn't survive Chicago either. .38 really is an underrated round when you combine with concealed carry.

My dad carried a revolver during this time.

He said it was because the government was worried about giving police too much fire power. It changed after columbine
