Just caught Hokum as one half of a two part "Monday Mystery Movie" at Regal. If you liked Oddity or Caveat, you will probably really enjoy this. Hits a lot of the same beats, and some may argue it's a bit too similar to those films. It has a very slow and uses jump scares sparingly. I could tell the teenaged girls sitting next to me were getting bored. When it's creepy, it's very effective, and I do wish it'd had a little more action and a bit less tension-building. There's one part involving a tv that I predict will be memed to all hell.The other movie was Over Your Dead Body. It was somewhat entertaining, at times reddit slop humor, with some graphic violence sprinkled in. Not horror, but was labeled as "horror" by my theater.

Just finished. Frustrating, repetitive movie. First day on the job cop is the only one in a police station overnight and crazy demonic shit starts happening. Love the concept, but the problem is it's the same scene repeated over and over: she thinks she sees or hears something spooky in another room, walks in there fun drawn, sees something creepy that turns out to be a hallucination, jump scare, repeat. And since EVERYTHING she sees ends up being fake over and over you really have no idea what's going on and feel like you're treading water the whole movie. The lead actress is catatonic. I liked the meanness of it, and the ending, but boy it's a slog.
