Evil Dead as a franchise always had an identity crisis.>OG Evil Dead was straight up horror, with the gags being more gross out violent. >Evil Dead 2 had the perfect balance of horror, slapstick, humor, gore, scares. Ash was still an average joe in an extraordinary situation.>Army of Darkness started the bafoon era of Ash and went too far into comedy. >The TV show made Ash a complete creep. >Now the remake and subsequent anthology films have veered all the way back to horror with no fun allowed. Evil Dead 2 needs to always be the blueprint.

Think of how legitimately, "realistically" gory the original EDs were for their time. One was a Video Nasty, ffs. The combo of gore and humor that ED did in the 80s looks like Cronin's stuff when you do it contemporaneously. I'd rather have something like like this than something like Deathgasm, where the comedy overtakes the horror.
