When he wakes up, he's being fitted for parts like Robocop. He loses a leg at the knee and transfers to pilot school, where he rises to pilot an advanced fighter that still flies human-hand against swarms of lower performing drones. He and batman are hailed as heroes, but batman chooses to desert using a human trafficker. Both sides now have burnt cities but great militaries. In one brutal air battle, Buddy's fighter is hit and he flies blindly, deep into enemy territory. He ejects and escapes again, but this time no drone comes for him. The land gets softer and greener, he finds simple clothes, and finds his way into an apparent paradise away from war. Did he really live? I'd like to think so.
