Why didn’t he just kill Isildur right there and destroy the ring himself? Surely the safety of all Middle Earth is worth more than the life of one king.
>>219929259Because Tolkien can't make a consistent story
>>219929259>destoy
>didn't know if he could defeat the guy who just btfo Sauron>best case scenario he defeats him and instantly causes a war between Men and ElvesNot a good idea
>>219929999He could have, Isildur catches Sauron distracted, his victory was honestly just a fluke happenstance. The real answer is he didnt have the balls to kill him for the ring, and if he lacked the strength to do that he would have likely succumb to it's influence and have been unable to destroy it.Even Gandalf feared touching the ring, he didnt trust himself to resist it.
>dropkicks Isildur off the edge and into the chasm below>"He didn't fly so good!"
>>219929259Isildur just killed Sauron 5 minutes before, would you take those chances?
>>219929259No.
>>219929259why didnt he just tell him he needed to jump into the volcano with the ring to complete the invincibility spell?
>just kill your friend to take control of the corrupting artifact, bro. >nothing bad will happen because you are better than him
>ISILDUR MAKE A VIDEO APOLOGY TO CHINA FOR ACKNOWLEDGING TAIWAN!
someone post the comic
>>219930720>be millenia old noldor with superior skill and arms>you cant take on a guy who flailed his sword around and got luckyThe real reason is that he didnt want that shit to come back with him in rivendell.
>>219929259In the books they don't know that Sauron persists when the ring isn't destroyed. He's advised to destroy the ring, but takes it as weregild for his slain kin.In the films, Gil-Galad and Elendil had both just died, and the kingdoms of Men and Elves were holding by an absolute thread. Elrond killing Isildur would lead to the obliteration of both races at that moment.
the elves didn't really want to interact with the ring as they feared its power would have been worse with them
>>219929259Did this scene actually happen in the book? I can't rememberBut it seems weird that they would hike all the way inside the volcano after the battle
>>219930912They’re immortal. What’s it going to do? Kill them? >>219931051No. It was a Hackson invention.
>>219929999>the guy who just btfo Sauronhe got lucky
hehe
>>219930842he sliced the finger perfectly, he was definitely aiming for that thing.
>>219931150Sauron's hand was raised in defeat when he chopped of the ring
>>219929259Killing the new King of Men would have started a massive war. How stupid are you? Everybody sees Elrond and Isildur walk into the volcano and only Elrond comes out and Elrond is like "Uh sorry guys Isildur had a little oopsie and died!" Yeah no the army of Men would have gone to war right then and there. It would have been another massive battle with thousands more dead.
>>219930571He could've just killed isildur and slide the ring into the lava pit with his sword while it was on the ground.
>>219929909It never happened in the books. Sauron is already dead when Isildur cuts the ring from his hand and Elrond and Cirdan both advise Isildur to destroy it but Isildur is like "nah I'm gonna hold on to it for a while, see if it's any good" and just walks off the battlefield. He later kinda regrets it and tries to take the ring to Imladris to ask Elrond and Cirdan for advise on how to destroy it but he gets ambushed a couple times along the way resulting in his death as well as the death of all but one of his sons.
>>219929259Simple answer? Elves fear the Numenorean bull.
>>219930571Gandalf does touch the ring a few times in the books. So does Elrond actually.
>>219929259>Isildur, hurry you must destroy the ring now! It's an emergency we must act right this second! Or else three thousand years from now Sauron might come back and start causing trouble again! The real question is what was the big rush? In three thousand years they should have been able to dismantle all of Mordor's defenses and destroy his towers. Genocide all the orcs. Also use the ring to command the Dwarves to dig into all of Mordor's mountains and collapse them.
>>219931446The elves kind of forgot about Sauron.
Isildur would have given him one of these
>>219931502This edit will never not be funny.
>>219931502Kek
>>219929259And why wasn’t Elrond tempted by the ring? He was at its strongest place of influence
>>219931661If he actually held it right then and there he would have been.
>>219929259Why didn't the elves make more rings?Apparently the 3 elf rings were actually made by the elves and weren't affected by Sauron's influence.
>>219931790The guy who made them got his skin flayed off and used as a banner by Sauron.
>>219929259You can't take the ring by force, if you do it instantly takes control over you. If he had killed Isildur or even just forcibly taken the ring without killing him he would have just become Sauron's pawn instead.
>>219932010>You can't take the ring by force, if you do it instantly takes control over youOh no, then makes you run off to hide in a cave for 500 years?! eek! what a powerful magical artifact! surely the doom to all the world! Why the fuck didn't it make Gollum into a gigachad that humans worshiped, crowned king, and fought for under a dark banner so that he could build forces in the name of Sauron?
>>219932117The ring's power over you scales with your own power and ambition. That's why ambitionless hobbits were the best ones to carry it. Any time some epic hero got hold of it they lost control quickly
>>219932179You'd think Isildur would have caused far more trouble for Rohan and other human leaders then. The retarded ring had a mighty king under it's corrupting sway and just squandered him by getting him killed in a river?
>>219929259because hackson didn't portray Isildur as book accurate. in the books he is a 9ft tall gigachad with a 3 foot cock. some wimpy knife-ear could never
>>219931125Recycling has been a con this entire time.
>>219929259If Isildur isn't able to throw the ring why do you think Elrond could?
>>219932662Because Men are WEAK (small dick). Elf are STRONG (enormous dick).
The hike back down the mountain must have been very awkward...
>>219933019The ring enhances one's powers. The reason Hobbits with the ring don't have any noticeable abilities is because they're fucking Hobbits. There is no power to enhance.
>>219932659Not entirely, glass and metal recycling is legit, plastic piggibacked onto it as a scam
>>219931446Read the books brainlet
>>219933122When I was a kid I wondered how they were able to sort through *that* much plastic. Turns out they dont and they just ship it to China where it gets dumped into a pit.
