I feel like watching it so far removed from whatever expectations people had in 2001 and going into it knowing it wouldn't be a carbon copy of the games helped me to meet it on its own terms and actually appreciate it for what it is instead of what I might want it to be. Aside from Ming-Na Wen's horrible voice acting, I really enjoyed the movie. It could have been better, but it didn't remotely deserve all the hate it got back when it first came out.
