I'm in Australia, so the best bet for me is to either go north where there is flat terrain for as far as the eye can see and more farmland so more guns.

So you'd only need the fuel to keep your fridge or whatever going, you could even bring a water towed generator and just cruise around at a few knots for a bit everyday to get your batteries charged. Get as many extra fuel and dry provisions/supplies as you think is useful and put them in those floating water-proof crates, you could easily last months just chilling out with a view over everything happening on the shore. Biggest risk would probably be either the initial rush to the docks day one and then the temptation of helping people struggling ashore when you're nice and cozy on the ship later on.

If you're intent on leaving for some far-off island or another continent, cruising yachts exist and are built for this but without resupply points you'd effectively have to rely on sails most of the time. Kek, I just started playing it recently. I’m not a major gamer so I end up play games 20 years after they come out. It’s pretty fun desu. It’s not perfect but I managed to finish the game satisfied. There are certainly better zombie games out there, but Dead Island was a good time.

The rate at which they encountered literal hordes of zombies in this series was absurd.
Even supposing that 99% of the population was infected, there should've been about 300 million zombies roaming about.
Contiguous US is the 5th largest country in the world, yet they kept bumping into dozens of them every 3rd day while being out in the boonies.

The real truth no one wants to admit is that the only interesting part of any zombie story is the short 'solo foraging while learning about the zombie apocalypse' bit at the beginning, and the short 'setting up a defendable position and clearing it of zeds' bit in the middle. Those are the interesting and exciting parts of the story. The rest gets so fucking boring and so fucking depressing so fucking fast.

Sort of. Those are the interesting parts of a short movie. But the actual draw and interesting part for zombie fans is imagining yourself in the scenario, which is why they should be games. There are a ton more interesting parts to the zombie genre that can be explored through games that have plenty more time to play out and not just bore the audience. It's also worth noting that World War Z demonstrated showing the apocalypse from dozens of very different perspectives acrosd the world is very interesting as well. It's not just about the american suburbs. The book, not the crap movie of course.

In saying that too, there's a lot of vast and empty forest with literally nobody and nothing nearby, so you could wait out the entire thing in some bodged together camp. All you really need to do is stock up on canned food and wait in the forest for a few weeks for them to rot away (assuming you go buy IRL biology) but if it's a super long term thing, get some seeds and plants from Bunnings in addition to your canned food.
