>WE DO NO HAVE TIME FOR YOUR DAMNED HOBBIES, SIR!

How do you respond without sounding mad?
>>
Commanding a ship is just the child's hobby of toy soldiers taken to an autistic extreme, you navy-nerd.

wasn't Depp supposed to get a revenge new potc movie after he won the lawsuit? Or did he get too old

The doctor was also an Intelligence Officer in the employ of the Royal Navy in the books, so he could have had a good excuse for wanting to be put ashore at odd hours.
He was also on the smack.

In the court of public opinion, no one really won that trial.

I felt bad for the Charles Darwin stand-in. He went and got his adventuring suit on and was all happy to head out and then Crowe dresses him down like that.

Having historical epics be your favorite genre in 2026 is pain bros. There's like nothing like this and hasn't been forever. Maybe the terror, but that was so fucking bleak and that is ages ago now.

Unironically feels that way. The colonial hero is a dead concept now unless it's deconstructed to hell and back. Used to be people could keep two thoughts in their heads at the same time, yes colonialism bad, yes venturing out discovering lands and meeting new cultures heroic, aspirational and peak cinema.
>>
>>219950740
Jack isn't really establishing colonies he's mostly taking prizes and getting ripped off.
>>
>>219950961
sure, but he's working for a colonial empire, yet apart from some conversations with Stephen, the main thrust of the story can just be "for king and country" without that having to be questioned too much. I think it's part of why 40k is so popular, since it's fictional you're just allowed to have stories where the characters just work for the terrible regime and there's no subplot of trying to change it or asking if they should really support it or whatever. Used to be so for hist movies. But honestly I think while that's part of it, people just stopped seeing them for some reason, maybe peple just didn't grow up with historical heroes and capeshit and fantasy took over I dunno.

The problem is that we're now under American hegemony, but the American empire is largely covert and disingenuous about its activities. They don't trumpet their imperialism, their policy is to pretend there is no empire, and that means they won't can't craft heroic narratives about it. The assassination of Bin Laden and the capture of Maduro would have been fictionalised as tales of military adventure and derring-do by previous empires, but American culture forbids that. Don't mention our empire guys, that's breaking the omerta.

I was watching this last night with my wife and was reminded that in 03 teaching evolution in school was still a controversial topic. The Charles Darwin stand in had me reminded that movies in the west have always included propaganda meant to sway the public one way or another.

Arguably the worst scene in the movie thoughever.
>>

it's pretty obvious they added that scene to beat the woman-free accusations. Especially how the line is written and performed "put that WOMAN down" who are they trying to fool, lol.
