I work for a records and documentation company. I have been assigned to Paramount recently. We're cataloguing story treatments and spec scripts of unmade movies. We're printing out hard copies for archive purposes. We're scanning hard copies and converting to digital. I am not allowed to "read" anything. As per my NDA. Though at the same time, we have to do quality control assessments of our work. We do have to check every page, make sure it is legible and done correctly. We have to compare pages to the original work we are converting. I do have to sit and look at every single page we are processing. Though for legal reasons, I will say I have not "read" these pages.Anyway, I cannot believe some of the stuff I have seen. There's obviously unmade sequels to all their blockbuster style movies. Star Trek, Mission Impossible and Ninja Turtles. That's all whatever, but they have dramas and academy award type stuff with full on screenplays. They have some 90 page plus scripts for "Ghost 2" and "The Truman Show 2" and for some reason "Selma 2" Like, Im baffled at this stuff. Does any one know why on earth they do this stuff? What's going on here? Seemingly these things are not intended to be made. Do the writers get contracted to write one anyway?
>>219949119Seeing the old Paramount logo makes me think of the first F13 and I get verklempt as all hell.
if a project is greenlit for the screen they almost certainly always start initital work on a sequel, if the project turns out to be popularif it gets popular then you don't have to waste too much time on starting up on a sequeland if it fails then you just got some extra pages that didn't cost that much to make
>>219949119they do it so no one else can do it without paying them.
>>219949260Im just blown away by the effort of these and they're just sitting storage. I get why they quickly crank out Rugrats Set Sail or whatever that bullshit was. Something like Truman Show 2 which was such a poignant movie, it feels odd to write it with no intention of making it.
>>219949119No you don't.
>>219949467prove I don't
>>219949119Well mummy was in script hell for 30 or so years? Before the fraiser movie I meanAlso, maybe at some point they will give these scripts to an Ai to make or to use as a library
>>219949119Why not just convert digital to digital? Print out hard copies from what?
>>219949510Trust me, I just checked
>>219949392>which was such a poignant movieyou have to be 18 to post here retard
>>219949547I actually suspect they are prepping to run these scripts through AI, and it's why we're doing all this work.
>>219949392Well, do they have anything by auteur writer-directors like Tarantula or Coen Bros? As much as I like Truman Show, it's a very polished product. It makes sense for the studio to continue investing. I'm sure most of them are total shit too, what would even happen in the sequel? Having some unfunny guy follow Jim Carrey's act is not a great idea, and Truman himself escaped.
>>219949119they probably make sequel scrips as a proof of concept in case they are greenlit for a sequel, then edit it later.
>>219949617>what would even happen in the sequel? The controversy of Truman's escape makes it impossible for Cristof to start a new show with a new baby. Truman cuts a deal with the ruined Cristof to keep shooting his life (not broadcast live this time) and his struggle with massive celebrity. In return, Cristof must give up his pretenses of godhood and authority, and simply follow Truman around with cameras as he deals with the fallout of Cristof's actions.Beset by deranged fans and unable to happily settle down with his love, Truman travels to various places including the dismantled dome of Cristoff's Cage. He tries different disguises, heading up the cali coast through BC and Alaska for a time, Dick Proenneke style. Ultimately Truman and Cristof put to sea, destination: Fiji. The last 30 minutes are a boat movie and at the end, they survive and Truman is finally reunited with whats-her-name. In the course of the voyage, Cristof becomes his own man and meets someone he truly respects. By the time they raise Fiji, he's actually bored of Truman. He drops off a heavy box of tapes and equipment with awestruck, Truman-crazy editors, and runs barefoot down to the beach as credits roll.
>>219949119>Do the writers get contracted to write one anyway?yes, it'll be stuff the studio paid someone something for or they wouldn't be in the archive. >>219949392the issue is that scripts can seem to be "well-written" but that doesn't mean they'd make a good movie. execs don't want to greenlight anything based on just a script because its so hard to identify flaws until after something is done.
>>219949726hey OP on a scale of +10 to -10, how does this compare to the actual sequel script
>>219950052(only in terms of structure, legibility, and fidelity to the original of course)
>>219950052Nothing like it. The Truman Show 2 script the TV studio immediately starts over with 2 babies. They expand even more, building an even bigger studio, with the boy and girl being raised as siblings. It's full of time jumps and the directors death and I don't recall it going anywhere interesting.
>>219949617I don't know writers names too well, I haven't seen anything Coen brothers show up. I did see David Fincher's name on some things a few times though.
