mini review on these?
>>
>>219966942
All terrible. Slanted is non-horror marketed as horror to piggyback off The Substance. Scared to Death is a vanity project by some Z-tier rock star and feels like it; too focused on being funny, though Bill Moseley and Lin Shaye were reliably great. FF was so bad I couldn't tell you what it was about; closest thing comparable I can think of is #Horror, which anybody who's seen it knows is a bizarre disaster.

All I've seen in theater, but my local theater is pretty small and doesn't get every new release. They do play older movies though, so that's cool. I got to see Evil Dead 2, Candyman, The Shining, and My Bloody Valentine there this year as well
>>
>>219967261
Very cool.
>>
>>219967261
Oh yeah, I watched Alpha as well, but I really don't think it counts as horror. It's listed as a body horror drama, but the body horror stuff is so incidental to the plot, it's really just a drama with some fantasy elements
>>
>>219967261
>Iron Lung
Oh yeah, wonder if that'll be out on VOD soon. Heard it was kind of boring.
>>
>>219967353
Yeah, I saw it too and left it off the list. Just because your fictional version of AIDS makes people turn into rock monsters doesn't mean you get to make a movie about some underage roastie's feelings and tell me it's a horror movie, lol
>>
>>219967428
I didn't think it was very good. Some interesting imagery towards the end, but most of the movie is just vague claustrophobia with kind of a dumb script. I didn't play the game.
The audio was pretty atmospheric, though. I remember thinking that it was enjoyable enough at the theater, but not something I'd have enjoyed if I watched it at home.
>>
>>219967455
Titane was like that as well, like the first 1/4 was horror and the rest was just a gay ass drama.
>>
>>219966899

It annoys me when VS or anyone else does an upgrade of a title Criterion previously had because I feel like it's being disrespectful to the brand that made their own labels feasible. I know Criterion didn't have The Tenant previously but seeing how many other Polanskis they did I think they would've gotten to it eventually. They did take Flesh for Frankenstein from them though. (Criterion probably would've done Existenz too.)

Just finished. I'm not a huge fan of the original, but the main thing the Soska sisters do to the idea is dumb it down and girly it up, so this is simply a much worse movie. Their girly instincts are balanced by their edginess, and the cumulative effect is that this ends up feeling like a worse Stuart Gordon movie (in other words, a Brian Yuzna movie. The camerawork is clunky and makes the whole movie look cheap. The lead actress is gorgeous and had a unique look caused by her unusually shaped nos and giant cheekbones. To my horror I discovered halfway through that the nose was fake!

I feel like that's the big unstated hole in that movie's message. She doesn't turn from an Asian girl to a white girl, she changes into a white girl who LOOKS LIKE MCKENNA GRACE. It could just as easily be about an ugly white girl who gets turned into Kenny without the Asian angle and it wouldn't be too different.

Mainland China or Taiwan & HK? Mainland doesn't really do horror movies, just those really shitty monster movies. There was one I watched where the woman had to remove clothes to help trick the giant Python (I think). She had like 6 layers on because of Chinese decency laws preventing women from showing too much skin in media. Just funny watching her keep taking off shirts thinking she'll run out eventually, but nope.

Mainland apparently, although HK is more under their auspices now. They do monster movies (like the Anaconda remake) but they do tend to lean more toward action-adventure, like the Ghost Blows Out The Candle movies have "spooky" stuff but with a more rational, often science-fictional explanation.

Definitely nothing in the “of the Dead” series makes the list. Don’t worry.

You really notice the cultural shift in the 80’s. 70’s was still suited up and classic styling in wardrobe for movies. Then in 80’s movies, funky goofy do-no-harm jolly blacks in every movie.
>>

Anyone seen this? people always call it a Scream ripoff, but it's pretty good, the killer has a much bigger body count than Ghostface and actually gets away with it, Robert Englund also shows up as a red herring which is cool
>>

i watch it every halloween, it's great. englund hams it up. i just remembered the sequel too and its retarded and kind of fun.

I always wanted to watch Channel Zero for years after seeing the cool promotional posters, but after finishing Season 1, what the fuck is this gay faggoty bullshit? It's bad fanfiction of a creepypasta extended for 6 episodes.
>>
>>219994160
Well, when adapting a creepypasta that takes all of five minutes to read into a tv, they're going to have to take some creative liberties. I enjoyed the second season the most, an adaptation of No End House. iirc season 3 fell off hard and I did not even bother with season 4.
>>
>>219993997
It's been a minute since I last saw it but I remember really liking it. The first sequel is pretty good, the third one unfortunatly went full retard.

They could at least have come up with something better than what they did, and maybe direct it so it doesn't look like shit, hire actors that can act, and try not to be the most banal and trite horror cliche shite there is.
I'll give Season 2 a try, it's all free on Prime but leaving in a week.

The Fearless Vampire Killers is a mix of 60s comedy and vampire stuff.
Ninth Gate is occult kino and mandatory to see eventually imo.

Fearless is a spoof, take that into account. I prefer Gate by a lot but that's just me. It's a low key, comfy movie, not a thrill ride, though. Fearless has that gorgeous 60s look to it.
