I want to see the Boy and the Heron again, at least to revisit it. I remember liking the slowness and mystique in the first half only to stop caring by the final act with the parakeets and whatnot
>>

They died on the way back to their h home planet

>love the slowness and mystique of the first half then cant give a fuck about the nonsensical second half
and you have just described every studio ghibli film congrats

More like Porko Woke-O.

unironically how did you end up like this? are you korean/chinese? or a salty /co/ fag?
>>

I liked Castle in the Sky and Kiki, those had a good pace throughout. Also Nausicaa was cool for seeing that giant flesh machine open its mouth and then shoot a laser which causes a line of like 40 nukes to go off in the horizon. Probably the coolest movie explosion ever and seeing it on the big screen was epic. Spirited Away is alright, Howl's Castle is exactly what you're describing, Ponyo looks nice but is also kind of what you're describing and kind of boring. idk I think those are all of the ones I've seen
>>
Modern Ghibli films have just not been very good at all. Sure it looks nice, but the plots and pacing are just piles of shit.
>>
>>219980797
Making this post made me realize that 80s Ghibli is best by a long shot
>>
>>219980711
NTA but how can anyone like Myazaki? His films are literally the same exact core story and tropes told over and over and over again. If you've seen Nausica you've seen every other one of his films. It doesn't help the fucking hack had to actively ruin Howl's Moving Castle by forcing his gay fucking tropes into it. Myazaki is a fucking hack. The retard can't even portray a significant emotion without using the same thousand eye stare while their hair stands up. Fuck Myazaki and every fucking NPC that praises him.

>>

What ruins that movie is they got a beat boxer to make fart sounds in a microphone to make the sound effects instead of hiring a proper foley artist.

Because apart from that, it was the only good movie he made since Princess Mononoke.
>>
>>219977736
It's like 3 classic movies rolled into 1. So dense. Heron is for himself and his grandson.
>>
>>219980586
The 3rd act of Porco Rosso sucks
>>
>>219978554
the Boy and the Heron is actually garbage. As a kid's movie it's fine but anyone implying it's anything more than flashy scenes and pretty colors is way too easily impressed
>>
>>219987051
It's alice in wonderland for boys, what's not to get? he hates the roastie who replaces his mom in his dad's life, the fire that killed his mom becomes her superpower in this fantasy. It's Godzilla logic.
>>
>>219987508
There is no logic, it's nonsensical, there's nothing to "get". Alice in Wonderland is also nonsensical but the reason it works there is because it leans into it and is comedic with fun characters. Boy and the Heron takes itself far too seriously while trying too hard to be emotional and deep and just falls flat because unlike Alice in Wonderland the world just isn't fun or interesting.
If you're implying that the whole movie is about the boy then that's all well and great but I could really care less. The boy is an emotionless piece of wood just like most other characters in Miyazaki films. There's no reason to care about what he's going through

It's a metaphor for being sex trafficked

KILLIONS
>>
>>219980807
The best Ghibl movies Grave of Fireflies, Princess Kaguya and Whisper of the Heart weren't made by Miyazaki
>>
>>219987808
What is even the appeal of Grave of Fireflies?
>here's two annoying kids that are suffering through a war. War sucks and people die and starve, make sure to cry too
unironically boring as fuck
>>
>>219987051
Boy and the heron is frustrating because you can see the core of the movie, death, childhood, and the end of a long and successful career, it just tries too many things and the story devolves into nonsense. The parakeet king onwards feels like the characters stumbled into a different movie. Miyazaki is a great artist, but no Shakespeare.
>>
>>219977736
Heron'll grow on you. One day you'll wish there was more Miyazaki of any quality. He was a once-a-century artiste.

Seeing pic related retroactively ruined all of his movies for me. What a cunt.
>>
>>219989114
You can just tell he's got such a high opinion of himself. No wonder his films come off as him sniffing his farts half the time
