Is it any good?
It's "muh gritty realism" shit like nuBSG.
First three seasons are gigakino. Objectively some of the best realistic sci-fi of all time.Season 4 is where the Amazon slop starts to show but pretty comfy. Season 5 and 6 are pure slop with some rare kino moments. Ends in an incredibly forgettable manner (I literally don't remember how it ends)
>>219984255mid but it has a rabid fanbase that'll jump on any occasion to glaze itmain character is bland and played by a shit actorstory mainly skips over the interesting scifi stuffdecent cgi and props
>>219984255It's very good. Best thing in the last decade. Way better than star trek and star wars. All six seasons were great. The books were even better. Can't wait to play the game.
>>219984255I enjoyed it. I think it is only contextually seen as "good" because in comparison to most sci-fi shows out nowadays, it isn't as cheap or as poor an adaptation as they are.
s1 until s3 then stopit's a good moment to stop, too
>>219984255Yes, it's decent. But the story is also all over the place. It's like the author wanted to try all the genres.
It stops being good after season 2 episode 5
i wouldnt say it's objectively good but it's different and memorable enough so that it's worth watching the first seasons at least, it definitely has some cool concepts
It was fine, but underwhelming for me. First season was really good, but then after that it just never lived up to that level again. I can't really say why, I just expected... more.
>>219984805Imagine being such a baby you have to find stop points kek. Your time isn't valuable, little buddy. You're wasting more on all the cartoons you watch and garbage threads here
>>219984326>>219984805This 100%. S3 ends with something big that makes you say "wow, holy shit, I wonder where this will go" and the answer is "nowhere". S4 is a nothingburger. S5 is huge Flanderization of the characters. S6 is a 6-episode (prev seasons were 10-13 eps) "wrap it up ASAP" checklist that, like Anon, I honestly couldn't even tell you what the final challenge/obstacle for the protags was.It is very much the 'masterfully drawn horse becomes a child's scribble half way through' meme.So yeah, when it's good, it's great. If you get hooked and want to see it through all the way, just be ready for the second half to feel almost like a different show.
Dude it's so realistic and such hard-scifi.Anyway here's some glowing blue wormhole zombies.
>>219984255S1 - S3 YesThen Amazon buyed it from the SciFi Channel and thats all you need to know to accuratly guess what happend next
>>219985045>you must watch a decent series go to shit because you just have to okayyou do you
>>219985045quit being a nigger, thanks
>>219984255Expanse?In all honesty: mid.Starts really strong then goes flat. The one thing they did expertly is to place the cliffhangers meticulously at the end of the episodes! It has so many problems.Rabid fanbase that'll tear you a new one the second you don't want to play by their rules. - Everything is creole, everything is mixed- Racism has now evolved into... "planetism" "Earther, Martian, belter"- Guys are either evil or naive tools- Girls are either bosses or victims- Story starts off strong but then devolves into white-walkers in space- The end feels definitely like some Game of Thrones in space fanfic- Their meticulous placement for cliffhanger basically means you are better off stopping half-way through an episode- Production quality is A+CGI is nice, the effects are nice, the sound design and soundtracks are solid- End devolves into yaaas queen from earth looking sternly into the eyes of polybitch from outer space- And - apart from Steven Strait (James Holden) - the cast is solidSo all in all, I watched it through but it did leave a strange aftertaste in my mouth. :-/
If the Expanse is "mid". What recent or current shows would you recommend?
>>219985615There's nothing else like it currently or recently. Most recent is probably BSG, but that has its own (very different) problems.I'm currently trying to write a screenplay for a scifi space miniseries, but I doubt I'll ever get that done and even if I did it would never get produced.
>>219985615BSGDeep Space 9If you're getting more desperate Babylon 5
>>219984255The first three season are pretty good, but really the first two.
>>219985615See? They call it mid yet it's better than anything else since the 00s or before. So by definition it's great and above average. But their contrarianism makes them say it's bad
>>219986232It's decent for a sci fi show, but compared to other shows it's just fine. It doesn't elevate past the genre except for season 1.
>>219986299>but compared to other shows it's just fine. What other shows?
>>219984255yeah
>>219986232If there drought and it doesn't rain for a decade then any shower is welcome, but it doesn't turn a shower into a thunderstorm.
>>219986232>wow, this is the best shit sandwich I’ve ever eaten!
for me, it's Wei
>>219990097Why do i not mind porn but I hate watching sex scenes?
>>219984326pretty much this. season 4 was carried by burn gorman and thomas jane
i rewatch it occasionally, its great. later seasons did shit the bed a bit but its still the best of its kind out there
>>219984326Absolutely correctBy S4 you realize the main character is literally a retard with a prophecy giving him plot armor and his girlfriend should have been shoved out an airlock in the second episode
>>219985513>The end feels definitely like some Game of Thrones in space fanficYou'll never guess who the two guys who wrote the books under one pseudonym used to be assistants to
>>219984255If you enjoy brown acting you will enjoy Teh Expanse.
>>219992109Based bell ringing retard
>>219988348>Everything bad>Everything is mid>Well what do you like?>Well err...
>>219984255It's a bait and switch. It baits you with alien tech and wormhole travel, but then devolves into generic space politics between a handful of increasingly annoying characters. Until a lot of good stories that grow more epic as they go, it oddly feels smaller and less grand as it goes because the alien stuff and wormholes is forgotten and it's just people talking on space ships 95% of the time.
>>219992732>the alien stuff and wormholes is forgottenThat's not true at all. The alien stuff is a slow burn and not used up all at once. The final three seasons are all about the alien stuff coming to a head and the colonies in the wormholes. However, it's called The Expanse because it's about humans expanding out into the stars finally. And that means looking at the crisis and chaotic nature of that event. Many embrace it, many are in denial of it, many reject it. Those interactions are very interesting and shouldn't be fast forwarded through just for you to see le space aliens like this is yet another star trek knock off. These aliens aren't the star wars crap you're used to. The alien setup is more interesting since they're, by the reality of the universe, billions of years older than humans. That conundrum also needs to be played out slowly and not rushed through, so that the conclusion is satisfying. And it is.
BELTALOWDA!
>>219984255Gotta talk about those dubs, kid. Next digits in the case!
TOTAL BELTERDEATH
>>219984255Nah
>>219993034>The final three seasonsThere are no final three seasons. There are three books that never got adapted into seasons. Don't promise people a resolution when the show ended 2/3rds of the way through the books
>>219984255It's top 15 best TV series ever made and don't let anyone tell you differently.
>>219996498Based!
who will pick it up again and adapt the last few books? save us ELON
maybe, just maybe the expanse video game coming out soon will kick up more interest in the series and then someone will pick up the show again for one last crack at this
>>219997557We've got video games coming out soon so it best to just do it that way instead of hope for shows/movies.
i enjoyed the first 3 seasons. 4 was ok. 5 is where i bailed but i'd already read those books anyways. i hope i never see dominique tipper's ugly mug in anything ever again
Honestly the game coming out has FLOP written all over it, shit will not push the needle for a continuation of the show
>>219996209Books are an entirely different beast at this point. The show stops following them by s3.thats honestly a good thing becauae Amazon would have ruined it
I'm at the first seasons, buy my guy Joe Miller is my favorite character. He's pure TechNoir swag, and watching his descent into love/obsession is kino.
>>219984255No.
Did we ever get a proper goodbye for the chinese doctor guy? Feel like he was there one second talking about amos being his best friend in the universe (made me tear up frfr) then hes gone
>>219998716he has a cameo in the last season, giving earth research to boost their crops and thats it
>>219984255>Is it any good? The scifi channel seasons are great. It went to shit after Amazon bought it.
