I disagree. rue’s entire story has been about addiction and now she mentions offhandedly that she relapsed a while back and basically hasn’t been sober since, but also says she’s california sober and just drinks and does weed, so somehow this relapsed addict is drinking and getting high, but isn’t spiraling or seemingly even tempted by the pills and harder drugs that she is around and handling every day as a dealer?
maddie when we first meet her in season one is watching porn to learn how to please a man, but now she’s a girlboss who don’t need no man? she should be the one getting married this episode, to like a divorced billionaire or something. her story should be about her being a stepmom to a rich girl her age, not being a wageslave for hollywood living in a studio apartment.
cassie is probably the least changed of those three but even then she was mostly just the black guy’s gf and maddie’s sidekick in season one and then nate’s gf in season two. she was never particularly some huge slut or desperate for fame or anything.

To be fair, Rue's plotline is a bit of a mess. I am not saying it is bad, but season 2 made it clear she was basically a-sexual and not really turned on by sex if I remember it correctly, and this season proves the opposite basically. I guess that Anon mentions how she hasn't changed in the sense that she's back in that limbo of trying to remain sober after relapsing, which is a rehashed theme, and we all know she's not going to stay that way.

Cassie's entire skit has always been that she can't stand it when someone else has something. And sure, sometimes her reactions would be provoked by situations where she would be set in a bad light, but again her reactions would be over the top because she's desperate for what she has going. She's showing obvious signs of fomo and chasing a certain lifestyle that comes with a certain income, and she's desperate to show it (hence, the expenses on the wedding). Her issue is that she currently seems to have everything she has wanted, but she's not being validated for it by her friends; instead, she's jealous that they seem more successful, and now she's again chasing validation from them to try and be first again.

I think the reason cassie is doing it now is because sweeney is the one most willing to do all the gratuitous nudity associated with that storyline.

True, her storyline feels equally messy and part of that is because it sounds equally as rehashed because Kat went through a similar process of feeling empowered by doing webcam stuff. My guess it was partly Sweeney's idea since she does the same thing: being very very aware of your body and knowing people think you look hot. Her awareness that flaunting her body can get her the things she wants is a new development that seems to be exploited to its fullest, but add to that the airheadedness she had from the last 2 seasons.
