Superman, a different version of Superman, once flew so fast trying to save his dad's life that his hair caught on fire. This version of Superman stood still and did not even attempt to save his father's life for his own selfish reasons. If he would have hesitated and failed, it would have been one thing, because he could have learned a lesson from that. Instead, the lesson he learned was to let your loved ones die if it benefits you. Which is the complete opposite of Superman, or what Jonathan Kent would have been trying to teach him.

In the Reeves version the arrival of the Kryptonians or whatever felt almost like folk horror. The setting was basically super calm and quiet and old timey and they show up lasering kents everywhere. Man of Steel went for dark and gritty, black eye type of action.This one sort of looks like they wanted dark and gritty but at lunch on an airplane and they didn't want to scare kids. The action looks cool, I like how it was choreographed and cg'd even, but the tone feels off like when Fast Five came out and the previous movie had started as a revisit to a sort of cop thriller with a bigger production, but no. 5 was now israeli spies and jumping out of planes and buildings in cars and all kinds of bullshit and the movie didn't know what it was besides "action"

I liked it just fine because it was the first and only Superman media I've ever seen so I have no idea what he's actually supposed to be like. Watching it with a friend that was adopted also made it neat.
