It makes a good point you know.

Are bongs still upset about being irrelevant lol
>>
>>220008408
Why do Americans pretend to not know who Robbie Williams is? He was an absolute superstar at his peak. Good Will Hunting, Jumanji, Aladdin etc are all classics
>>
>>220008460
I'm gonna be honest, I thought that was just a fictional name for the fictional monkey guy in the comic until you posted this
>>
>>220008351
>>220008460
lol why did this failure of this movie assblast bonglets into oblivion?
>>
>>220008460
I am continuously surprised at the depth to which i simply do not know the guy
>>
>>220008351
mucho texto lol

>>220008351
>I'm not butthurt, I even made a comic to show how relaxed I am
>>
>>220008351
I'm not an americunt, but the movie being a box office flop proves no one cared about Robin Williams
>>
>>220008351
I'm look like that and say that
>>
Is this the thread where Americans pretend not to know who Robbie Williams is?
>>
It's so funny to me that this became a big thing just because this movie came out and Americans said "who is Robbie Williams?" Like Brits freaked out and seethed just because we didn't know who he was and there wasn't even any malicious intent on the American side.
>>
>>220008351
the movie bombed, I don't know if the comic author is aware

The Brits couldn't handle the bants

>>
Robbie Williams? Is that guy from the cat food commercials!
>>
Ah yes, Better Man, the singin’ dancin’ monkey!
>>
>>220008773
It's not even clever.
He was a famous comedian for decades and was on TV and in multiple major films.
The idea no one knows him is asinine
>>
>>220008351
we already had this argument back then
this is out of date
the issue is more about the movie not being really in line with robbie williams actual life and career but more of a retelling kind of plus resulting rather depressing
did not really like this aussie directed shite desu
>>
>>220008749
It's such a strange thing to get mad about. It should be obvious people are not going to pay to see a biopic of somebody they've never heard of (and also he's a monkey for some reason).
>>
>>220008460
One Hour Photo was pure, unadulterated, kino
>>

the author makes comics about big baby trumpy
>>
just know him as the Take That lad who launched his career off the back of the death of Princess Di then blew it all within like a year cause he was a massive alco/coke addict
now he's saying he's going blind or something from his vaxxing

Apparently Robbie Williams himself has also spent his whole life super pissed about Americans not knowing him.

Brits need to understand that they're just not that important anymore, they don't have very much influence outside of British actors coming to America to work on American films. The average non brit probably experiences more Korean and Japanese media and influence than English at this point.

Also you're all broke and your government is a fascist joke. Even as the American government becomes absolutely fucking nightmarishly horrible people still point to England and go "well at least we're not like them."
>>
>>220008351
If they actually made a movie about a monkey rock star who is an allusion to Robbie Williams played by Robbie Williams, people would be endeared. Instead it's a biopic, but monkey, and people are naturally repulsed by the idea. Can't blame them. It would take just an ounce of humility to salvage this.
>>
I am 35 years old and just hearing about Robbie Williams and this movie from this thread. Apparently he was in a band I've never heard of.
>>
>>220008408
Attaching personal worth to geopolitical or cultural relevance is probably the most pathetic thing you can do.
>yeah, I live in a trailer full of punched out drywall bu everyone knows who brad pitt is

But enough about OP.
>>
>>220008351
When? When does it make a point at all?
>>
>>220009294
I've now listened to one of their songs and come to the conclusion that they were the British Backstreet Boys. This has about as much relevance as a Brian Littrell biopic.
>>
>>220009315

Take That was probably the most popular boyband in Europe back in the '90s, even more than Backstreet Boys and NSYNC.
In USA they were a lot less famous but, unlike solo Robbie, they actually had a hit there: in 1995 Back for Good reached number 7 on the Billboard top 100.
So for you americans they were at least one-hit wonders.

37 year old boomer here. My first fap was to a spice girls poster and I'm an Oasis enjoyer, but I've never heard of Robbie Williams until Monke and his music gives me no sense of nostalgia, in fact his greatest hits don't even sound like anything I've heard before.

I also watched 30 minutes of Monke Man and it was abysmal dogshit, a retarded vanity project by a literal who with the most generic story beats you could possibly imagine. How did this nigga even get famous in the UK?
>>
>>220009500
>Back for Good
Just listened to it, never heard this song in my life but I was 4 in 1995
>>
>>220009500
I'm kind of shocked by this. I remember the Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, Hanson, NKOTB, etc, and can at least vaguely remember 1 song by each of them. But I have never even heard of Take That before.
>>
>>220008351
stop gaslighting the board about this movie, it failed because that fucking monkey looks disgusting, like the pictures on europoor cigarette packs of diseased organs and shit. only eurotrash and repulsive niggers like shit like that

The only fatal mistake they made with the biopic was the name. Tens of billions of potential viewers mixed it up with the anime classic Betterman.
>>
>>220008460
>pretend to not know who Robbie Williams
He had one semi-marginal hit her and that's it. Absolute peak who? I think I remember him level.
Being nobody gives a shit about stars in other counties who can't main stream cross over to the USA market. Being all USA stars are world stars. So unless your Elton John or Spice Girls etc with USA hits one might as well be a bongland wedding singer.
>>
>>220008749
You can stop pretending you don't know, now
>>
Why'd they make Robin Williams a monkey? Dude had such a recognizable face and was so famous, seemed like a weird decision. Also had no idea he was a popstar in London too! We lost such a talented man in 2014.
>>
>>220010035
>Why'd they make Robin Williams a monkey?

>>
>>220008351

British people are very vain and self centered, so they think Americans don't know who he is when the reality is that no one fucking cares who he is. In the 00's he got major radio time that lead to nothing. Sorry. No one here gave a shit. Still dont.
>>
I still don't understand why he was a chimp
>>
Anybody remember that biopic that was made in lego style?
>>
you know who was a good british artist? amy winehouse, at least during the Frank years. why cant you faggots talk about her instead of some random disgusting monkey dude
>>
>>220008460
It would've helped if he made a single song worth a second listen, but unfortunately he's a complete hack.
>>
>>220010512
Because a Robbie Williams concert is "more fun than a barrel of monkeys".

Yeah a lot of guys on /tv/ said they didn't like it because it wasn't a biopic
Same with that safdie movie
>>
>>220010583
>Anybody remember that biopic that was made in lego style?
It's weird how TWO different musicians had vanity projects using a completely unrealistic visual style to make themselves seem more interesting to audiences during the same year.
>>
>>220010868
>Yeah a lot of guys on /tv/ said they didn't like it because it wasn't a biopic
How do you know they were Americans?

Maybe they're saving it for the sequel

we don't pretend. in fact the only reason I knew Robbie Williams was because he did the Johnny English song... 23 years ago. you guys are lucky JK Rowling made people pay attention to your country for so long, otherwise you'd be no different from any other island drifting in the Atlantic.
>>
It would be like showing a movie where Dave Matthews plays a dog. I don't know why they thought Americans would watch a movie about this lil monkey fella.
>>
>>220008460
Who the fuck is Robbie Williams?

I rewatched it recently and still don't understand why Pearl Jam signed off on it.
>>
>>220009195
Spice girls were huge. Friends in London episodes were huge, The Harry Potter books ..

For some wierd reason Robbie Williams just didn't mesh over here. I had no idea it was even him but I've been pretty immersed in the cultural zeitgeist my whole life and I only briefly remember the music vid of him dancing and taking off his skin. Maybe he just grossed Americans out with that.

tbf, I don't know what half of the shit Americans reference in their TV is.

sun faded on the empire, and it's finally dawning on them
america is next of course, when they make george floyd biopic people are going to real mad when china and japan don't give a shit

To seperate itself from other biopics and also have the real singer do his work.

Robbie Williams is basically if Justin Timberlake was actually charming

good will hunting had a sound track that was very far ahead of its time, with acts that would be obscure for years. Then Aladdin had a ton of actual musicians working on it. So it takes a second to realize it’s robin not robbie
