>As the week comes to a close, the groundwork is being laid for what could be the biggest bidding war of the year. And it’s, appropriately enough, for Battlefield, the military video game which last year topped the sales charts. And if the title wasn’t enticing enough, it comes with some of the biggest names in Hollywood: Christopher McQuarrie, who has spent the last dozen years guiding field operations for Tom Cruise in the Mission: Impossible movies, and Michael B. Jordan, who last month won an Oscar for his performance in Sinners.

>McQuarrie is attached to write, direct and produce a feature adaptation of Battlefield, the military video game from Electronic Arts, while Jordan is attached to produce and possibly star, depending on several factors. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that McQuarrie and several others pitched studios and streamers such as Apple and Sony Thursday with other meetings occurring Friday. Those involved are prioritizing a theatrical release so it is unclear if Netflix will be on the meetings list.

God Hollywood is fucking retarded. They're so greedy for a taste of video game money but they have no idea what actually makes successful games appealing. There's been 14 battlefield games and exactly one(Bad Company 2) good story with adapting into film.

I'm really looking forward to the guys making the God of War tv show finding out that the nu god of war story is actually dogshit and only hyped up by brainlets who were wowed by the fancy eye candy graphics and expensive advertising

It's a franchise that's what matters to Hollywood
Also when did Hollywood made a video game adaptation that actually followed the story? They don't give a shit

>making a 1st-person video game into a movie
Didn't they try and colosally fail with that already with Doom?

>Michael B Jordan
Urge to tourrettes rising..................

Because video games can't be translated into movies. You can't substitute the hands-on active experience for sit-there-and-eat-and-watch experience. The BF games are shooters. Story is a half-assed vehicle to launch a game about going around shooting other players. That's it.

Would it be so hard for these companies to just put together a focus group of like 20 people that actually play video games to tell them how dumb their ideas are? We're on our way to a shit bloodborne adaptation, a shit elden ring adaptation, and I don't even have to mention how shit god of war, call of duty, and this battlefield trash is going to be. Can't wait for the inevitable "guess gamers just hate watching movies/are too racist/sexist" headlines when these flops flop.

Hollywood has a rule which they don't hire fans of the works they adapt
this isn't just video games
It's comics books etc
>>
>>220009823
The recent success of Sonic, Mario, Minecraft, Fallout, Mortal Kombat, etc are why this is a thing in the first place so i wouldn't bet on automatic flops

They don't directly adapt outside sources (games, comic books, novels, etc). There's a copyright law that says if they alter around 30% of the material over the source material, then they can legally copyright and own it as their own legally-distinct version. So changes are always deliberate. Plus the crap of "UPDATE IT FOR TODAY'S MODERN AUDIENCES."

Why can't he do something that's a decent video game but would actually make for a more kino film, like Splinter Cell?
