It might be hard to accept since normalfags ruined this shows reputation, but the first few seasons are objectively one of the best shows ever
>>220027014Let me know when you start boardwalk
Remember the episode where Arthur became a crack cocaine addict?
>>220027014Watching a TV series is by it's nature an infantile activity. Television can never be art as it is a uniquely, inherently corporate medium. That's why generals devoted to shows are the bottom of the barrel single digit IQ cesspits of this board, you'll never find filet mignon in a pig trough.
>>220027062oi mate wot fockin happened?
>>220027062Feel bad forhim. Imagine having serious substance abuse problems and going to the pub only to be apprehended by some deanos who adore your character and shove coke up your nose and beer in your glass.
>>220027014It is a bit too slow in the beginning. And I never liked the gypsy magic bullshit. But I really like d Sam Neill as a bad guy.>>220027027underrated show, but took a bit of a lull in the middle seasons
>>220027027Boardwalk is ruined by Buscemi doing his tough guy LARP vanity project.
>>220027014>dapper criminalsBah, that most tiresome of genres.Throw it in the trash with the Guy Ritchie flicks.
>>220027014It was better when the gang was local and the stakes were smaller. Rival local gangs, expanding their business, etc. Then they went full retard with the politics and estates and the rival gangs were international criminal syndicates.
>>220028674thats why I said only the first couple seasons were great
>>220027014>I got you now Tommy Shelby, you've lost!>Ackshually, mate, I've won because of some bullshit Deus Ex Machina that happened off screen This happens literally in every season finale
>>220027014ok but have you started doing this?
I like all of it, except for the movie.
>>220027014When the formula became that he was distant and never around and then showed up like some superhero to duel the bad guy at the end and that repeated over and over again I was out. Like Tony Soprano is away and does his solo adventures sure, but he spends a lot of time hanging out with his subordinates or at home base. They followed the exact formula with the movie where the son was doing the same thing of being away from his gang all the time who we see maybe once, as if being a leader of a gang isn't about leading and gaining their respect, instead it's really about just being alone and moody. The early stuff when it was about gangs and Sam Neill being on top of him was cool, and while the later political stuff was kind of ridiculous and not true to life it did make me read up on the times and orgs which was interesting.
>the gang of murderous gypsies that kill anyone who doesn't bend over>will fight the biggest evil of all>RACISMAaaand I'm out.
>>220027062Which came first, the in-show coke addiction or the real world one ? Did one exacerbate the other ?>>220027465
>>220027014The show died with Sam Niel imo
>>220033951I'm a latecomer to this show and I've only seen the first two series – Sam Neill died at the end of series 2. I think some of the problems people have mentioned here were already becoming apparent in series 2. For one thing, Sam Neill became more of a comic book villain. In the first series, I thought he was a mostly believable old-school Ulster man, but in the second series he was a rapey monster who hobbled around his gothic dungeon on a wolf's-head cane. They may as well have given him a top hat and monocle to complete the look.
>>220027014I remember really liking the first series and then hating the show more and more as it went on. They seemed to forget about Tommy's shellshock from his time in the trenches, which for me was the most interesting thing about it.
I'm monitoring this thread for racism. If I find any, youse gonna get a visit from the boys, ya hear?
the Lenin pose?what sad bastard wants to larp as a bald russian manlet?
>>220027897true, he was the worst part for me. never bought his toughguy shtick. still, the early seasons with jimmy were peak.
>>220027897>I can't accept Buscemi as a tough guy, no way>but male model Cillian Murphy and his boyband are totally believable in their roles
>>220027014>ME OWN FOKKIN HORSE >A ROICIST
>>220034916This and same. If the show was made by people not just in it for the money, this core character trait would have ultimately culminated in him fucking dying and the show being over. Because he would have been willing to take extreme and bizarre risks from 0 fear of dying which is obviously not sustainable. Instead, it's a gangster sherlock holmes who never ever loses.
