>>220031812Miller wasn't in love with Julie. He was in love with an ideal in the shape of Julie: the self-sacrificing daughter of a billionaire who abandoned her easy life to join some righteous cause she had little to no connection to. While Miller, on the other hand, is a miserable, jaded private security officer (for an earth-based private security company) who takes bribes on the side. It's the ideal Julie that inspires him to to be better, more noble, to be self-sacrificing. It redeems and revitalizes him in a way. Of course, it doesn't hurt that Julie is young and attractive. Holden may have the Rocinante, but Miller is the Don Quixote of the story and Julie is his Dulcinea. https://youtu.be/8JDjYm6vgdY

And he stares down the entire time. He stares down into the void, aware that at any moment a piece of debris could whiz through his skull and kill him. No idea when or if it will happen, nothing he can do except sit there and stare. He faces his own mortality and has severe ptsd the entire season. That’s why all the gripes from his career come right to the surface. The mask is off.

Do you think there is a large demographic of belter women into raceplay? Earther men would be significantly more muscular with a higher degree of stamina. Combined with either the desire to be degraded by inners, or the allure of the taboo of associating with inners and being labeled as a earth mans whore, there's a lot of potential for fetishization. Many of the characters in the books are quite different from the show. Such as Ashford. In the books, he's pretty dumb, cowardly and a clear antagonist. He's only in the third book and rightfully removed afterwards. The show made him awesome. BookMurtry is also very different. He's shown to have come there because he can enforce an iron hand, kill people with impunity, and be as brutal as he wants. He wants to torture, kill and/or enslave the Belters on that planet. The ShowMurtry is not depicted that way and actually shown to be in the right most of the time. But since the story is mostly following the books, it still keeps having the Rocinante crew be supremely hostile towards him since they're reacting more to his book depiction. It's funny since he's also confused why they hate him in the show.
>>220029724Only redditors type a declarative sentence with a question mark. Go back, faggot.
>>220062627They are the Martians that made a secret plan to steal a bunch of Martian ships and weapons then steal one of the ring gates and the systems beyond. They armed the Marco faction of the Belters with ships and stealth technology so they could start a war as a distraction. This helped that group of Martians disappear mostly unnoticed until it was too late. Bobby and Alex got wind something was happening and almost got killed over it. They named their new planet Laconia in reference to the ancient Laconians aka Spartans. Duarte chose that system since it had advanced alien shipyards still in orbit of one of the worlds so he stole the protomolecule and Cortazar to try and activate them. In season 6, those little kids are exploring Laconia and playing with the strange alien dogs.
>>220062766are those dogs important in the book? kinda weird they had this whole fucking pet cemetery plot line in the last season without anything really happening to it?shit got resurrected and no one cares?
>>220062811 Yes. They're an example of the old builder technology. The builders made things that last, so the dogs are still around all that time later. They just do their intended purpose and can't really question it. The dogs are repair drones. They just seek out damaged stuff and fix it, which is using protomolecule technology. So they can bring things back to life, but they're fundamentally changed now with protomolecule. The Builder aliens are a hivemind, so anything that gets fixed is connected to the hive in a way. The kids are connected and eventually drawn to that hive. When other people later die and get fixed by the dogs, they are also connected. The know things they shouldn't, and don't know how. They desire to go to the hive but don't know why. The scientists experiment on them trying to see if they can contact the Builders, and it gets super addictive to the kids. They start getting pissed off if the scientists disconnect them.
>>220062530ever been checked for autism? you should get on that.
>>220062766oooh, makes sense. Shame the show died
>>220057641>>220060891To be fair to the Mickeys, they were out numbered five-to-one at the start of the war, and were being led by a fighting admirals like Souther. By the time they were drawing up defensive lines on Saturn, they had whittled the UN down to a three-to-one advantage. It had the UN so rattled that they were forced to try a first strike on the Martian orbital platforms and unleashing the hybrids on Mars. The fact that Mars lasted as long as they did against those kinds of numbers means that they were some cutting edge, pipe hitting dusters.
>>220063150Seeing scenes like that hit harder than other scifi shows to me. It would be so awesome to see humans spread throughout the solar system and overcoming the challenges over living in space. They took centuries to painstakingly build all that stuff out here. And some assholes are always just chomping at the bit to start a war which will immediately destroy it all. Then take decades or centuries to rebuild. The Earth itself was going to take forever to recover even.
So, I recently watched finished this and now I feel empty, cos I have nothing to watchIm usually not that into all those sci-fi shows, never got hooked on shit like Star Trek, etc, but this I lovedI like sci-fi games tho, love shit like Mass Effect, maybe thats why I liked this, it really reminded me of that, without the cool ayy lmaosAnyway, I need something else to watch now in similar vein.I have in my backlog Battlestar Galactica and Firefly, ive heard those are similar and people usually hyped them, but other recommendations are welcome too

>>220063801They don't suck. They're pretty good. They story has necessarily moved on decades into the future to the next interesting conflict. It's exploring how humanity has been living with all those 1300 new star systems, many still can't live on their own yet without Earth, and all have to still travel through the ring space. That travel could still cause trouble with the red aliens if they don't follow the rules. And they're still dealing with alien artifacts and technology on the various planets, with people trying to wake them up without really understanding them. wait, mars has two moons, right?why did they have like 8 on their flag in the show and alex got buttmad when amus deleted one from the ship after it got destroyed?
>>220065568They're living inside an asteroid and trying to fit as many people as possible. So yeah, it would be cramped.
>>220065604Mars has two moons in reality: Phobos and Deimos. Deimos got nuked and broke apart into a bunch of smaller pieces so Amos was mocking it by drawing many more moons. Alex and Bobbie both got upset about it.
>>220065604The og flag had two moons for phobos and deimos, Amos added the others to symbolize the debris left by the one that got blown up.
>>220029637Where does Drummer succeed where other girlboss characters fail?
>>220065868Drummer's not a girlboss. She's not perfect nor the best at everything. She's just in the leadership and part of a team. She has a temper and can be harsh, but she still listens to others and follows the chain of command.
>>220065868I think her being a girlboss is highly arguable, but even if you do think she's a girlboss, there are a few things that make her a likeable character. A) She's hot. In a show with a lot of weird looking people, that matters. B) She's allowed to have blind spots and moments of emotional vulnerability which humanize her, and make her feel like a real person. She doesn't know everything, she's allowed to cry, and feel helpless, and to be irrationally angry, and the show doesn't excuse these moments, or frame them as correct, but uses them as chances for character development.C) She never has the small dick energy of other girlbosses where the objective very obviously to tear down traditionally masculine institutions rather than uplift women. One of her defining character traits is her devotion to a man who she believes offers the best future for her and her people. In WOKE(tm) shows, that would never be allowed, as a woman willingly submitting to a man is a holdover of patriarchy which must be stopped.

>>220063533I've unironically got hooked into Star Trek after finishing up The Expanse. You miss a lot of the "hard" sci-fi stuff, sure, but nothing feels too "over the top" in-universe since there's always technobabble to explain things.I'd recommend giving Deep Space Nine a shot - rather than the episodic, weekly sci-fi story with a moral message that the typical Trek series go for, DS9 leans more in to an overarching, developing story, and with a lot more interpersonal conflicts between various groups and species. Between that, and the main setting being on a station complete with a bar where various cultures mingle, I'd say it's one of the least traditionally "Trek"-like shows.>I like sci-fi games tho, love shit like Mass EffectI'd give Babylon 5 a shot as well. Similar in many ways to DS9, I'd say B5 comes the closest to feeling like a Mass Effect show, with the B5 station itself being similar to the Citadel where there are ambassadors from various species and, similarly, conflicts between them all as well.
>>220065831>>220065775oh right, that makes sense, guess i misremembered him scraping off something
>>220067063>I've unironically got hooked into Star Trekeh.i mean, im sure its good, there must be a reason why it has so many fans, i just cant get into it, precisely to an extend cos of the fanbase, they are all just such a bunch of annoying fucking dorksalso, isnt that shit being on for like literally 60 years? where do you even start with it at this point?ive heard about ds9, thats also on my list, along battlestar galactica and firedly, might eventually come around watching that too
>>220067478>ive heard about ds9, thats also on my list, along battlestar galactica and firedly, might eventually come around watching that tooi meant babylon 5*
>>220065868to add to what the other anons said, she's also in a culture and profession where her harsh attitude makes sense so it doesn't come off as compensating for something
>>220067063>>220067478Funny to see zooms talk about Star Trek this way. > Babylon 5Definitely one of the few sci fi shows of that era that managed to write a full series arc and actually stick the landing. They can't even do that now when everyone is trying to. > isnt that shit being on for like literally 60 years? where do you even start with it at this point? It's episodic TV you don't really need to start from the beginning. TNG will be the easiest entry and probably season 2 or 3. There are episode guides covering what you should watch and can skip. You could jump straight to DS9 but will miss a lot of context.
>>220029637this show was the best this girl ever looked and will ever look
>>220067478>also, isnt that shit being on for like literally 60 years? where do you even start with it at this point?look up an episode guide to the original series and watch the good/important episodesif you want a more traditional long-running episodic show, watch TNG
Does the game have a chance in hell at being good?
>>220067597>Funny to see zooms talk about Star Trek this way.im 34 you little shitwell ill def give babylon 5 a watch eventually, might try some start trek one day i guess, if im day starved on sci-fi slop, aside for vidya and books >>220067692will have that in mind
>>220067748have you played any other owlkek game?expect>bugs, so many bugs>overwrought rpg build autism for no reason>one good romance and five humiliation rituals>two kino companions, two cringe ones, and a bunch of boring ones>polish and refinement of the game goes down the toilet 1/3 of the way through>choice and consequence that's fairly detailed but leads to nonsensical endings because even flags get buggedit will still be the closest thing the industry has to a ME1 or KotOR successor
>>220067748Yeah, sure. It's still a whole year away. It looks okay, but kinda janky right now, as expected of Owlcat. Their writers usually do well (with some wild deviations in both directions) but I reckon Alcon (studio of the Expanse) is helping with that so the story should be solid. I mean they revealed the Aryan queen of the crew and she is already popular.
>>220067748I think it looks like it'll be plenty of fun. I'm not expecting perfection though.

>>220068640it's both "gap moe" and peak female performanceyou don't want just an ice queen because women should be able to be nurturing, and you don't want just an emotional soft girl because then you have to handle every single problem yourself

>>220070429I think she's fine and that was more a show runner problem. The character is way better in the books. She actually comes across as sweet, playful, and intelligent. The show turned up Naomi's irritability way too high in the first couple seasons. They made her bitchy for no reason and someone you don't want to be around. Then gave her too much screentime in 5. That arc was important, but they went too hard on it. When I read the books, I like her a lot

>>220062811I remain of the opinion that they should've done that as flashbacks in later seasons instead of wasting time o the Laconia stuff in season 6.
>>220077703I appreciate that they did it. Since they shortened the season and canceled anything further for an indefinite amount of time, at least they gave the audience reason to pick up the books and see the ending. Even with that, so many of you dorks think that was just random nonsense, there's nothing else, and nothing was planned. Like this is just some jj abrams crap. There's no guarantee they'll ever made the final three, so it's some payoff to get a tiny taste of the alien stuff everyone was wanting to see since the start
>>220068548>Liking Miranda>Liking Mass Effect 2 in general
>>220077898If you twist my arm I'll say my issue with it is more with the presentation and what they showed than the idea of showing it to begin with. That's why I feel it was a waste, because what they showed didn't really set up the Laconia storyline besides reinforcing what the repair drones can do and Duarte's vision for Laconia; the latter of which we got at the end of season 5.Honestly I would've rather them intertwined it with the Free Navy conflict were we see them use the stick moons to build the railguns for Inaros, since that would better inform the audience of how the Laconia plot would play out.
>>220077110The Expanse team partnering with Spacedock to do the lore videos on the ships was one of the most based things the studio did. The Morgaina looks better though imo.

>>220081017Hearsay!
>>220077110>>220078757All he MCRN ship designs look so fucking good, art direction was on point for them
>>220085880For me they prove you can have both interestingly designed ships that are also grounded in reality without having to resort to "NASApunk" designs.
>>220029637Is it true they're doing the show again or something? For sure it won't be good, but that's a curious development regardless
>>220078757>>220085880Still funny that art wants to always portray them flying left or right, horizontally. It's the generic soft scifi trope treating them like ocean ships. An xray would show everyone onboard sideways though kek. I love that they're set up like buildings and can take advantage of engine thrust to be held "down" to the deck.
>>220086231It's just a shame the deck design in the show didn't really reflect that.
How does Earth have such a massive population when we're currently looking at below replacement birth-rates across the world?
>>220086394They tried. They are constantly climbing up and down ladders. Each deck is pretty small. Loved the scenes where the ships are changing course and people get tossed around or when all the ships get stopped in the slowzone and everyone dies
>>220086231I think that's mostly because they fit better on the screen that way
>>220086495For sure, but it feels like either the layout would be too constricting for filming, or they needed to have hallways for said filming instead of hammering home the verticality of the ships. It's only really season 6 that shows that during the seizure of the Azure Dragon when Boobie jumps down to the lower deck to take the bomb.
Is Cara a good actress and is there anything else that she's in that I should watch?
>>220086930She was in star trek strange new worlds i think, haven't seen it so idk if it's any good
>>220087157You sure you're not confusing her with Christina Ching Chong?
>>220057718>they haven't done any voice acting besides this missionWell, that's the thing. Voice acting, writing and facial animations in this mission are bargain bin tier.So far it looks they care more about chasing mass effect downies.
