Why did the adult cartoon genre completely die?
Rick and Morty killed it
>>220030183Correct, and it was all (((planned)))
>>220030177Smiling Friends was good until it died. Also if you're gonna include anime you've got tons of stuff on that side of the planet.
There are no more adults these days. It's all crybabies, from boomers to gen z
>>220030183Spoken like a true zoomer. Tim and Eric popularizing cheap and easy-to-produce live-action slop is what killed the peak, and Adult Swim became the “live-action and Seth MacFarlane rerun channel”.It’s hip to dogpile Rick and Morty now, but it at least brought original animation back to the fore.
>>220030285Except for you, huh?
>>220030355No, even I am one
>>220030177Netflix Big Mouth type slop with badly drawn characters saying fuck and smoking weed, doing safe edgy shit, written by chungus millennial women and onions guys, with mid comedians doing voices seemed to be the default process for a while. Hopefully Smiling Friends walked so other projects can run.
>>220030177Instead of redoing their animated sitcoms every few years the Fox Network just started renewing the same 4 shows over and over leading to a general stagnation.>Zombie Simpsons stagnates>Generic Seth McFarlane shows that give little to expansion>Bob's Burgers as just a safe spot for comedians who failed as live action actorsAnd that's the downward ecosystem, from Amazon/Netflix slop like Aubrey Plaza's recent abomination Kevin to Rick and Morty's "see see I can say Shit! Isn't that wild! Let me get drunk and talk about the Multiverse" everything after Fox's Animation Domination trickles down and pumps up leading to a genre in desperate need of something new.
>>220030390The value of safe edgy is to prevent the atrophy of the edginess muscles.
>>220030177Mission Hill really came and went, didn’t it?
>>220030355yes, i am the last true man
>>220030336You complain about cheap and easy-to-produce live-action slop, but claim that cheap and easy-to-produce animated slop is bringing original animation back to the fore?
>>220030770Yes god bless cheap animation like underdog Best shit ever
>>220030177The rise of anime and manchildren.Young people are not mature enough for adult cartoons anymore.
>>220030770https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwBjhBL9G6U
>>220030177Adult cartoons are cringe
it had a good run, 90s, 2000s was the golden age, it kicked off because of the simpsons and ren and stimpy.2010s was the nadir, awful shit like adventure time and steven universe, shit for tumblr retards and woke retardsno one watches cable anymore so cartoon channels are dying, streamers think its to expensive to invest in a cartoon show that would go on for multiple seasons.the future and present of animation is theatrical and indie youtube slop
>>220030589Yeah but it was great. Was that an adult swim series? I thought they just played the reruns
>>220031001>Ren and StimpyBeavis and Butthead had a greater cultural impact
>>220030177Relatively expensive
>>220031001>no one watches cable anymore so cartoon channels are dying, streamers think its to expensive to invest in a cartoon show that would go on for multiple seasons.I still believe the issue is that the incentives aren't there to make them like they used to. To wit: adult animation is downstream of children's animation, and when the latter gets kneecapped by the one-two punch of deregulation and the rise of streaming, it leads to either slop or more boutique short-run series. Why? Because the studios that were supported by the old system led to both more talent being available and the resources for adult offshoots to be available as well.
>>220030899Most people under 30 prefer Spongebob to South Park.
>>220031111Also just generally, if you grow up with cartoons, you're more inclined to see cartoons as art. Going all the way back to people who watched Looney Tunes Shorts and Snow White as kids were gonna be more inclined to tune into the Flintstones as adults. Kids who grew up watching Droopy were more likely to think they were more likely to think Ralph Bakshi was a genius and so on until you get to today. And for the last couple decades there has been a solid decline in original kids animation (at least from Britain, the US and France) which is why Zoomers just get deep into Anime.
>>220030177>Why did the adult cartoon genre completely die?it's called animation, and it's still going.
Shows take too long to make now.I can't bother to care about an animated show that has 8, 15-minute episodes with two years between each season.
>>220031393Do you want Smiling Friends with different animation styles every episode, or do you want Invincible with a PNG being dragged across an axis?
>>220031361I watched the first episode of Kevin and it was just so stupid and it followed this formula that exists in Adult Animation that has been expanding like a virus. >All-Star cast of non-voice actorsReally started a bit with the Family Guy, but by Bob's Burgers the entire cast was relatively successful comedians doing their own voices. No offense to Eugene Mirman, but that's basically the peak of it, literally make him, but a 12 Year Old Boy with Aspergers. >Cookie-cutter animation styleGame's gone, in the pursuit of lower budgets they've all switched over to that digital style as opposed to Korean Slave Labor.>Shit we can say shit! Edge for edgeLike I get it, I'm watching a cartoon about cats and dogs but it's a grown up animation so lets talk about sex, psychologists and shitting! But that's the whole plot and point. What makes a good adult animation is that it's a sitcom, but it doesn't have to follow the laws of physics or terrestrial logic. While Kevin does have some good cartoon logic under it, it's just derivative of Family Guy stuff "oh talking dog, still a dog, but also human in a way" The most successful adult animations, seem to be Invincible and stuff, because by the mid-00s the main properties coming out for Western Animation were mostly superhero things, from France's Totally Spies to the American Teen Titans, by the early-00s Superhero stuff was in and from that young adults craving an adult cartoon that was good and adults looking to make a good cartoon, looked towards superheroes of that Dark Horse nature.
>>220031433No, I want a Reddit and Morty animated universe where each season of each show has that one thing the writers are obsessed with as the through-line, like incest, or kuato from the 1990 Total Recall movie.
>>220031548We all knew you were the one who liked that shit
>>220030177Animation in general is dead because nobody knows how to draw anymore.
>>220031051Weirdly enough, it was an animated series for UPN. Remember UPN?
>>220030177Sex and sexiness became taboo.
>>220030336Tim and eric was always stupid and gay. I never laughed a single time at anything they did. Millenial humor is so cringe and I'm a millenial.
>>220031642>man hands
>>220031634Where they aired the grossly underappreciated Star Trek Enterprise?
Why is this so hard to understand? Woke killed it, for the same reason woke also killed live action comedies, woke will not allow humor since it means the woke sacred cows would be open to mockery
>>220030177why is the west completely unable to make a serious animated show? Every single American animated show on that mural is a comedy, one that looks ugly as shit. Meanwhile all the jap anime are serious shows with actual plot lines and stakes.
>>220031747Such as?
>>220031752American Boomers refuse as a per se rule to watch animation that is not a comedy. Invincible is the exception that might prove the end of the rule.
>>220031762Weebs are basically the only people who view cartoons as a great place for literal emotional drama and that's mostly cause they're autistic and have trouble associating sympathy with people.
>>220031794That may be true, but I still believe that there are certain genres that would benefit from animation, like fantasy. If Game of Thrones had been animated well, it probably would not have been as successful, but it would have been a better adaptation.
>>220031851Can't blame Boomers when they tried
>>220031634Ah yes, UPN. The we badly want to be The WB network. Greg and Mike was pretty good.
>>220031659aren't they gen x
>>220032693They are but were watched by millennial faggots.
>>220032764well, faggots are faggots regardless of generation, I'm a millennial and thought their show looked shit so
>>220032327I'm came for The Secret Diaries of Desmond Pfeiffer and stayed for Homeboys In Outer Space.
>>220030336Rick and morty was always shit. Feel bad faggot
>>220033105>A-am I cool yet, guys? No, you are not.
Its not dead, Hazbin Brothel is still going
>>220030770If you’re referring to the Sealab/Space Ghost/Aqua Teen/Squidbillies/12oz Mouse/Perfect Hair Forever/Robot Chicken era, abso-fucking-lutely.
>>220033146No dude. Honestly feel bad. That shit is embarrassingly bad. To pretend it "saved" adult animation is even worse. Just say "saaar i grew up with it saar"
>>220031659Tom Goes to the Mayor had its moments, but beyond that, yeah, they were the fucking worst.
>>220030177Regular Words but a Horse Guy was good until Metoo ruined it
>>220033208The teenager edgelord energy radiating from this post....
>>220033105>Rick and morty was always shit. Feel bad faggotI'll white knight for season 1.I checked out ar season 2
>>220030336lol mad sorry BURP SHIT FART CUM FUCK destroyed the entertainment industry, zoyfuck
>>220030177>yfw the Atlanta studio was abandoned after WB-Discovery merger and the Adult Swim wall is falling apart
everyone born after 1999 failed to grow up
>>220030336Specifically Tim and Eric related stuff taking over the channel is more the problem. I ddon't think their other live action shows are nearly as popular, besides Eric Andre Show.
>>220033785Based. You cooked that insecure faggot.
>>220030770Get that shit on the right the fuck out of here. Fantasia 2000 never happened. So bare bones and dead that it had to borrow two shorts from the original to pad its 75 minute running time.
>>220030729not this shit on 4chan too...I haven't deleted my instagram account because I often find myself at work scrolling and watching those garbage videos. Should delete it but it also rots my brain with porn too. Probably does more brain damage than drugs
>>220034854You realize Millenials were the original I'm a toys r us kid generation
>>220030177>whySucks ass, gay
>>220033930Where at in Atlanta is the studio?
Adult animation is still going strong (adult does not mean sex and violence)
>>220030200I'm sorry planned by whom and to what end?
>>220035178Boomers deadass still watching cowboy shows
>>220035375Across I-85 from the Cartoon Networks building on the northeastern corner of Georgia Tech main campus. Specifically,1065 Williams Street NW, Atlanta GA.
>>220030177they stopped airing stuff for a long time and they really didnt put alot of effort into it. adult swim became nothing but family guy reruns with no real original content. The bosses were additcted to shit like >>220030336Cheap garbage shows they could spit out and pretty much give the team carte blanche to make other shows which all kind of ran together. i think what really killed it was the lolsorandom shit that rick and morty brought with it but also things like Too Many Cooks. They abandoned any good art stuff like Metalocolypse and Venture Bros because it was too expensive and the viewership tanked. Also with streaming everything got muddied.
>>220035601thanks
>>220035741The problem is nobody has had Cable in a decade and Warner was stuck with HBO as their major streaming identity which complicated the Adult Swim style content.
>>220030177too reddit. insincere.
