Movies shouldn't have music in them.
Real life doesn't have music, so movies shouldn't have music.
Whenever I hear music in a movie it reminds me that I'm watching a movie and it pulls me out of the story.

Real life also isn't shot with a camera.

welcomem back Robert Bresson

Music is to hide how shitty and fake the audio is. The real mystery is why games felt the need to copy this.

>Real life doesn't have music,
Perhaps you're doing it wrong then.
>>
Try watching Back To The Future or Bond flicks without music, it would suck.
>>
I also dislike emotionally manipulative music in movies. If you can't direct the actors so their performance makes me feel the intended emotions then you shouldnt be directing at all.

Bresson used gaudy music all the time.
>>
Also, Nightcrawler would be so much worse without the music, because it's a perfect intentional mismatch.

Music is an emotional crutch. It should be used very sparingly, if at all. Truly expert directors can and should be able to build a scene's emotions, or tension through pacing, cinematography, and dialogue alone.

I thought the soundtrack to tonight crawler was fitting. The fact that it was detached kind of mirrored how detached the protagonist was.

I hate to break it to you anon, but music actually does exist.
>>
>>220041570
they can have music when the camera is in a location that could potentially have speakers somewhere.
>>
>>220041787
well yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Without the soundtrack it would've been a much worse movie.
>>
>>220041570
i get more upset by overused songs in movies. like if you make a movie and use "blitzkrieg bop" or "the walk of life" or "let my love open the door" or any other songs that have been run into the ground, you should be tarred and feathered.

I don't think so. His early two films which were classical studio productions did use music, but when he came into his own stylistically he stopped using backround soundtrack alltogether unless it was diegetic music, as in the music actually playing in the setting of the scene.
>>
I can't imagine the Watchmen without All Along the Watchtower, The Bob Dylan intro, or Desolation Row for the credits
>>
>>220041570
yeah it's really no different than laugh tracks but gets a pass for some reason
>>

dark souls did this well with only the main bonfire and bosses having music, adds a bigger impact when breaking through the silence of the rest of the game
>>

It was tastefully done in Back to the Future though, can’t speak for Bond as I don’t like those movies to begin with.

Yes, the sound must never be produced apart from the images or vice versa. (Music must not be used unless it occurs where the scene is being shot.)
Shooting must be done on location. Props and sets must not be brought in (if a particular prop is necessary for the story, a location must be chosen where this prop is to be found).
The camera must be hand-held. Any movement or immobility attainable in the hand is permitted. Optical work and filters are forbidden. The film must be in colour. Special lighting is not acceptable. (If there is too little light for exposure the scene must be cut or a single lamp be attached to the camera).
