The beacons lit up so fast in Return of the King, each beacon would have to have been diligently watched 24/7 by the most devoted men of Gondor for the beacons to light up as fast as they did. Not a single link in the chain succumbed to illness or were killed by orcs or what have you…and they say the age of man was ending.
Sorry, not dying for Gondor
>>220047367They're tended by ghosts. They only needed to be visited once a decade and given offerings to remain at peace and be vigilent in their duty.
>>220047456Wait really? In the movie there were regular looking dudes
There is probably like 4 or more men on rotation watching it 24/7, also its not probably as "fast" as the movie make it out to be
>>220047367It's based on an actual early warning system set up by the Byzantine Empire. It's said that they would have Constantinople on alert within ten minutes of the first beacon lighting up at the southern border.
>>220048953I bet it was actually like 7 hours. There’s no way you’re putting your best guys on beacon duty
>>220047483An odd element of the Lord of the Rings movies is that Peter Jackson decided to make the viewer a medium. Meaning we see ghostly characters as flesh and blood. The only cases this doesn’t apply in are cursed ghosts, like the men from the mountain or the ring wraiths. But in most crowd scenes, at least one character is a ghost. There’s an internal logic to it all, and once you understand it, it’s a lot of fun to rewatch the movies and ghost spot.
>>220048994All you gotta do is have someone glance in the direction of the next hilltop every so often.
>>220048994you only need 3 or 4 dudes in a cabin taking shifts watching the beacon farther out
>>220049258After a month of nothing happening people would be doing all kinds of fucking around. You ever work a retail industry job in a store that hardly gets a single customer?
>>220047367that was the point of the scene also there are cuts, it wasn't instant
>>220049435>>220048994>comparing post-industrial capitalist retail wage-slave behavior with the mentality of fantasy medieval-like men from a besieged land>not putting your best guys
>>220049435Yes, but my family back home was not in danger of being killed, rape, and enslaved when I failed to serve that single customer as a result of my lollygagging
>>220048953That’s fucking slick.
>>220049011What the fuck are you talking about dude
>>220052700he's just making shit up
>>220047367>>220049435People who haven't served in the military and American retards find this scene implausible for some reason.>What? They just wait around in the middle of nowhere... umm wtf. What did they eat?
>>220052869WTF did God really say that?
