The standard view is the normie view, and normies, as a rule, are always wrong.1 is better than 2. 1 is low budget, but it has the sense to stay within its limitations. It doesn't try to portray a post-apocalyptic world, because it can't. Instead it depicts a kind of smalltown pre-apocalypse, and mostly succeeds in the endeavour. 2 does try to go full post-apoc, but it falls far short of its ambitions. Nothing we see in 2 is convincing, because it's just too cheap to pull off that grand story.
