Why are so many of the "greatest movies ever made" so crude? They're rarely poetic, beautiful, uplifting, or even classically tragic. Is film an inherently "low" art form? I often feel dirty after watching a "great" movie. Whereas listening to a piece of classical music you always feel better, even if it's in consoling your sadness. Movies seem to tear down the human spirit more often than not. Especially "cinephile" movies.
>>220055457The era where all the movies that everyone cares about was made was limited in a way that made tragedy the easiest thing to make to fit said limitations.
>>220055457Movies have always been made by jews. Even Conan The Barbarian was directed by a jew.
>>220055457film is always an industry at the end of the day, i know what you mean, but classic literature tends to be pretty depressing too. art is a reflection of life and life is hard
>>220055551Depressing is fine, good even. That's not the problem. Crudeness is.
>>220055457You're either not used to the medium or haven't seen the right movies. Probably the former. The best example of a movie I can think of right now that suits your request, and is accessible to newfags, and is an excellent introduction to real cinema is Days of Heaven. Watch it and if you feel nothing movies just aren't for you.
>>220055809>Days of HeavenThe only Mallick I disliked and I love tTRL and tToL
>>220056270Thin Red line is a sleek Hollywood product. Tree of Life is a clumsy, haphazard retread of Days of Heaven techniques. What did you dislike about Days of Heaven?
>>220056452Easier to say what I liked of what I can recall, I'll spoiler it all for safety:The giant tractor scenes, the swarm scenes, the fires, the musical scenesThe MC just felt sleazy but not in a roguish or endearing way, the film felt a bit in stasis for a lot of the middle just in fields, on farm, train comes, more wheat...and then the shooting didn't do anything for me, probably bored at that point
>>220056452>>220056585And inversely, I felt both a broad and specific relation to tree of life for large parts, "like it was based on my family" kind of feeling. Not in the same vein as Days of Heaven at all. All that being said, Days of Heaven is worth watching for sure, I guess our tastes differ quite a bit.
