They can't exist outside of their physical body, which is why they cling to it by any means possible - that's also how Maul and Anakin survived. Palpatine's body was destroyed with the Death Star 2 getting evaporated. Sith can't exists as spirits outside of their bodies. His return is bullshit that completely wrecks the entire mythology of Star Wars and it was never explained, except for a message in fucking Fortnite, lmfao.
