Here's how The Last Jedi could've done basically the same "Ben turned to the Dark Side because Luke had his lightsaber out in his bedroom" backstory, but without damaging Luke's character:
>The movie as it is establishes Snoke can use the Force to project imagery and make people see shit. This is what he does all movie long to fuck with Rey and Kylo.
>In this new version, establish that Ben has been troubled during his training; not Dark Side-level troubled, just regular troubled. Do this via a proper flashback scene where we actually see Luke trying to train Ben without much success.
>Ben's difficulty in training has been weighing on Luke's mind; he goes into Ben's room just to look him over in a "concerned parent/teacher" type way and ponder the situation.
>When he steps into Ben's room... Snoke is already there, looming over the sleeping Ben, ready to do some bad shit.
>Luke understandably freaks out and activates his lightsaber, ready to defend his nephew from the evil Sith Lord.
>Snoke grins. He fades away - He was never actually there. Luke has been played.
>Luke realizes Ben has already woken up. All he sees is Uncle Luke, his lightsaber out, furious and ready to attack.
>Shit goes south.
I don't think I'll ever not hate Rian Johnson for what he did to one of cinema's and fiction's greatest heroes.

grow up

This would have been an infinitely better course of action.
>>
>>220066232
You don't understand. The whole point was to make Luke into a schizophrenic murderer, who walks into the bedroom of his nephew with a weapon, takes it out and contemplates killing him. Doing anything else would fail to achieve the goal - destroying his character, destroying his legacy, and clearing ground for Rey to start a new generation of jedi, free from Luke's influence.
>>
>>220066232
It's been a fucking decade, anon. Let it go.
>>
>>220066232
And then luke uses force holgram to defeat kylo for pure star wars pottey
>>
>>220066232
Yes
Snoke revealing his power to Luke in this scene is a vast improvement
Ideally the scene shouldn't exist because it is a flashback and Star Wars doesn't do flashbacks ever
In Star Wars we JUMP TO LIGHTSPEED
>>
>>220066232
That's not much better. Ben turning just because of a misunderstanding is still really dumb.
>>
>i need Luke to be completely guilt-free and without fault
How pathetic.
>>
>>220068634
More like
>I need the man who redeemed Space Hitler with the power of love to not immediately jump to 'murder' as his first course of action when sensing trouble and conflict within his own nephew (the son of his beloved sister)'s soul who also was asleep at the time.
>>
>>220069505
>Nooooo, my favourite childhood hero is not entirely flawless
Grow up.
>>
>>220066232
Good change. The movie would still be irredeemable, but at least this part would've been improved.
>>
>>220071419
You first, Rian.
>>
>>220066232
>Here's how The Last Jedi could've worked!
don't even bother, its a lost cause
>>
>>220066610
It can be 10 decades and someone will care about Star Wars because it is part of western canon. Also Star Wars RPGs.
>>
Never attempt to write anything ever again OP
>>
I'm gonna say it.

The Last Jedi is the one sequel that feels like real Star Wars to me, even with the horrible decisions it makes. It's bad, but it's the kind of bad that one would expect from Star Wars. It's not a desperate by the numbers attempt to induce nostalgia like the Force Awakens or an all-out shitshow like the Rise of Skywalker. You can hate me if you want, but I think it's more or less tied with Revenge of the Sith. The way Luke was handled in that movie is about as bad as the way Anakin was handled in Revenge of the Sith, but it's done with the kind of liveliness that George Lucas's Star Wars is known for. Of course it's bad, but it's hands down the best of the trilogy.
>>
>>220071419
He wasn't flawless in the original trilogy, so that makes no sense. The problem is that he was completely out of character in the last Jedi.
>>
Or just you know, write better movies and not go anywhere near this
>>
>>220066232
Still a non sequitur with the Jedi being all killed again and Driver going dark side

Driver would run to mommy and daddy, Luke and Leia and Han are estranged over it, Driver grows up to be galactic senator and outlaws Jedi like in X-Men
>>
It's so weird how the sequels take place AFTER everything important happened. It doesn't pick up when things get going. No, it's like an epilogue to a more interesting story that's alluded to in the dialogue. It's like someone pressed the record button when they were supposed to stop recording.
>>
>>220066610
Antisemitic piece of shit
>>
I don't care bro

I couldn't care less about this shit

Even this Snoke character you are twisting yourself over is a half-baked after thought
>>
>>220072664
>Kylo fights Luke
>Luke is badly hurt by lightsaber wounds
>Kylo runs
>Jumps to lightspeed from planet
>No one has seen him since
>Luke must temporarily wear a suit of life support armor and hunt down fleeing Jedi (for good)
>>
No sequel is as bad as the decision to make Vader say no in Return of the Jedi. If I had to choose between having the sequels disappear and still having Vader say no, or keeping the sequels but having Vader not say no anymore, I would choose the latter with no hesitation. Why? Because the sequels can be ignored. Read the Expanded Universe and just don't watch them if you want more Star Wars after Return of the Jedi, or just let Jedi be the conclusion to the saga. But you can't watch Return of the Jedi anymore without that idiotic no unless you have earlier releases on physical media. The existence of a bad movie doesn't ruin a good movie. Actually fucking with a good movie does.
>>
>>220073175
From a canon/lore perspective, have the sequels disappear and watch the despecialized or 4K83 edition or something
>>
>>220066232
Lmao he’s holding his lightsaber like he’s jerking off a cock
>>
>>220068634
>>220071419
I'm sorry you can only feel intelligent and clever and creative and witty and good about yourself in general when you're ruining other people's shit, Rian.
>>
>>220072393
Best film of the sequel trilogy for sure, but it was made with the worst intentions.
>>
>>220073323
>watch the despecialized or 4K83 edition or something
Trouble with that is then you get Yub Nub instead of the good song at the end.
>>
>>220073356
he's pedo coded, thanks RJ
>>
>>220069505
>the man who redeemed Space Hitler with the power of love to not immediately jump to 'murder' as his first course of action
And what was he doing prior to saving Space Hitler with the power of love?
>>
>>220066247
No
>>
>>220075550
Someday you'll grow up and stop being afraid of the boogieman
>>
>>220077451
I'm sorry you need everything to be shit in order to feel like an adult.
>>
>>220077106
so 2012 Twitter of him !
>>
>>220075862
The best film of the sequel trilogy is Rogue One.
>But Rogue One's not part of the--
I know.
