I grew up in the 'burbs in the 80s. Its true -- even clique had a token black. I don't know why or how, it just kind of worked out that way.

I grew up in the 2000s and there was one Chinese family that lived on our street with sons who were my brother and I’s age, and me and other neighbors would throw rocks and them whenever they rode past on their bikes.I couldn’t imagine things being better two decades before that

What was funny was that my class had like 10 blacks, and while they were all friendly with each other, they all splintered off and hung out almost exclusively with their respective cliques of white friends. There was no "black group", there were 10 black kids that were each the token black of 10 different groups.
