>>220070417What went wrong is the creatives got embarrassed by Austin Powers and instead of understanding that those films were a love letter to the glory days of James Bond they instead decided that Bond needed to be super serious and gritty, and while that worked for Casino Royale (and Skyfall to an extent), it weakened Bond and made the people in charge think Bond was the one that needed to change.Goldeneye had M call Bond out as a "sexist, misogynist dinosaur" which was enough to acknowledge Bond shittier aspects but the film never actually made Bond different because it understood that was just how the character was.All this talk of a "black Bond" or a "female Bond" just shows that people don't actually respect the character. It would be better for them to not make any more Bond films than to ruin the character further.
