What's his best role? Is he really as big of a prick as people say he is?

Nobody has ever said this.

I knew Belushi and Akroyd in Chicago back in the 70s. I met them after Blues Brothers went into first release when they had a joint on Wells behind the Earl of Old Town. Both of these guys were from Second City and were well familiar with the town, Belushi having grown up there. So being out of town or unfamiliar doesn't cut it as any excuse. Akroyd was always a sanctimonious prick; he didn't know me until he wanted something, he was all over me until he got it, and then it was back to not knowing me again. Belushi was a nice guy, but was being badly served by his groupies. His brother Jim was also a regular guy.

What's the context? Were you someone Aykroyd actually needed to know or were just a functionary hanging around?

best role is either Trading Places or Driving Miss Daisy. He has been nominated for Golden Raspberries many times. I liked him, Chase, and John Candy in Nothing But Trouble.

What’s his best work?
>>

Ghostbusters. Ramis needed to reign in his sheer autism for the actual movie (The original script was Dan and Belusi driving a black herse through time and killing hitler or something) but the paranormal was def his hyperfixation.

>Dan Aykroyd lost it at one point during shooting on the Paramount lot. In full "Conehead" attire, the actor threw a mega screaming fit at the studio's Melrose Avenue gate after his personal wardrobe person was reprimanded by a security guard for busting the lot's 8-mile-an-hour speed limit. Aykroyd was so peeved after the incident - and after hearing that one of his production assistants was given a hard time when he tried to enter the lot late one night - that he burst into the guard station and trashed it. He threw everything on the floor, pulled one of the phones out of the wall, threw papers, knocked the computer on the floor and held the button down on the wooden arm (that lets the cars in) and started motioning incoming cars to 'please come right in ... welcome to Paramount Pictures.' A female security guard witnessing the incident got so upset that she hyperventilated and had to go to the lot's infirmary. At one point during his tirade, Aykroyd commandeered one of the studio's golf carts and drove around screaming and cursing.

He had to be doing untold amounts of cocaine to play that role.

maintain LOW TONES, earth servant

imagine getting cone-raged at by Beldar himself while he’s in full prosthetics screaming about 8 MPH violations. security guard probably thought it was an alien psy-op from PSI-FACTOR

honestly if you’re gonna have a meltdown on a studio lot, doing it in full Conehead regalia and waving cars through the gate like you own Paramount is objectively the funniest possible way to do it. that’s commitment to the bit

LOW TONES.

This is the kind of thing that needs to be engraved over the gates of the camp our culture needs to be put in.
>>
coneheads, toonces, etc were funny as shit in the classic silly lightearted boomer way we all enjoyed in the 80s but coneheads as a movie was a wtf move even in its day

the evolution of comedy is so weird. it's indeed hard to find the old stuff we grew up guffawing too as "funny" these days, but everything now is completely miserable and certainly none of it is funny
>>
>>220083170
how did coneheads get greenlit for a full movie?
>>
>>220083205
Simple answer Wayne's World was a huge hit and paramount wanted another SNL movie.
>>
I am convinced Aykroyd has thousands of pages of notes detailing everything about Conehead anatomy, history, culture, and technology. There was a companion book for the movie he co-authored that went into way too much detail about stuff like Conehead reproduction to be a joke. It was clear he put some actual thought into it.

I would have watched a serious sequel

50/50 grift and genuine akyroyd insanity

Mans a high functioning autistic weirdo but gets along with everyone, even people that all hate each others guts all love Dan.
Oddly enough it's the same with Bill Murray's brother.

He’s not a prick, he’s just a fucking lunatic. Too much LSD in the 70s. And if you don’t say Spies like Us you’re a millennial who deserves nothing.

No, its legitimately good vodka.

>>220085453
But is it really a crystal alien skull or just normal glass?
>>
>>220084336
All "premium" vodka is a grift. At least it comes in a funny bottle

>>220086142
Its just normal glass, of course. The bottle is very unique and human-like, not alien at all. It would be very hard to handle or store if it was like the actual elongated crystal skulls, never mind being able to even move it on a factories conveyor belt.
The gimmick behind the process of making it is having the alcohol get filtered through authentic Herkimer diamonds before bottling.
>>
>>220071351
>What's his best role?
Probably Elwood.
>>
>>220071351
He's not a prick, but he is insane and really, really loves shilling his vodka.
In the UK we have this cooking show on Saturday mornings where a bunch of literal who "celebrities" from UK TV sit around talking to the chef and trying his food, and a few months back for no reason at all Dan Aykroyd was one of the guests. The funniest part is he barely spoke, instead of just taking a few mouthfuls of the meal and chatting to the chef, he fucking loved the food and just kept eating. Naturally he mentioned his vodka, I swear it's in his contract now.
