>movie makes you think that there was going to be an epic battle between the nimitz and the japanese fleet
>at the last second they go back to the present and nothing happens
Fucking bullshit.
>>
This one was disappointing as hell. But to be fair it's hard to live up to that title.
>>
>>220071388
This movie had a really weird thing going on where it didn’t trust the audience to understand even the simplest thing happening onscreen ever so they had the characters say and think exactly what was going on. Got to the point where I started tallying each time they did it.
>character feels mad. Proceeds to say, “I’m mad!”. Other characters proceed to think, “wow, he’s mad!”
Sting, Stewart, the aesthetics, and the score are highlights though.

I really liked the idea of this movie, and the beginning part where he's trying to send himself back in time. But once he successfully goes to the past, it becomes a rather mediocre and underdeveloped romance, just not very well written and amateurishly done.

>Somewhere In Time

This was filmed on Mackinac Island in 1979, where at the time I was a Boy Scout on a one week service campout.

Never saw Jane Seymour or Superman though.

How am I wrong, though? The whole movie builds to the moment where the Nimitz saves Pearl Harbor, then at the very end of the movie, when the jets are moments away from blowing up the Zeros, the time portal reappears and nothing fucking happens.

If you dont feel disappointed with the ending you are retarded.
>>
>>220071388
I was on the Nimitz when that happened. Crazy ass shit man
>>
>>220071388
The problem with this is that it spends so much time doing setup about the potential to alter time and then it rushes the ending by yanking them back to the present before they could actually do it that the it feels complete waste of time. And the final “twist” reveal feels hollow and meaningless, like who fucking cares.
>>

It would have been too expensive.

That movie Furiosa: A Mad Max Story or whatever it was called was probably the biggest disappointment I can think of in the last decade or so. I loved Fury Road when it came out and I still love it. It’s one of my favorite movies that have come out in this mostly worthless century. I figured the Furiosa spinoff wouldn’t be as good, but that a movie set in a post apocalyptic world filled with V8 worshipping death cults and theatrical violence and mutants would be entertaining no matter what it was about. I think I’ve seen Furiosa three times and every time I watched it I liked it less and less. Forgettable trash
>>
>>220090172
Fury Road was boring shit

What if some aliens are us from the future. Would we even recognize them?
>>
>>220081213
Stopping the attack on Pearl Harbor would be capeshit and the movie would have had to be much longer (and expensive) to deal with the alternate reality it created, not to mention the time paradoxes.
>>
>>220091566
Some of them are if you believe any of the crap the us government keeps classified

>Stopping the attack on Pearl Harbor would be capeshit
>anything that's cool and awesome is capeshit
Okay
>the movie would have had to be much longer (and expensive)
If you dont have the money to do a proper climax for your movie then write something else instead of making some rushed boring shit.
>>
>>220071612
I honestly think of it as a novel with pictures, not a movie lol. Like the intro of the extended cut even has paintings of things that happen later in the film which is really weird.
>>
>>220071388
>stop the attack on Pearl Harbor
>piss off the Deep State
>return to the future
>suddenly get "accused" of being a pedo
>>
>>220094078
It's more like a companion piece to the book. Like here are a few scenes from the book.
Actually, if you went all in on this approach you could cut out all exposition because your audience would be only book readers. I realize that's impractical, but it would have some huge advantages over the traditional approach.
>>
>>220071388
I have never seen this movie, but it's underwhelming ending is infamous. It's like the definition of undelivered promises.
But there are ways you could deliver on the promise while also keeping the timeline intact:
>1: Historically it is known the Japs didn't launch a 4th attack on Pearl Harbor. What if instead they did, but it was the Nimitz that shot down all Jap planes? Then the Japs cover up that disastrous final wave and pretend they never launched it.
>2: The Americans had a couple of carriers on patrol nearby. What if the Japs did know about those carriers and launched attacks against them, forcing the Nimitz to intervene.
In both cases the time travellers want to strike the Jap carriers because of patriotism, but then the time portal shit happens.
Both scenarios result in a nice time loop in which the Nimitz was actually a secret participant in all of it.
>>
>>220092576
What, Bigfoot?
>>
>>220094381
Or,
They could want to stop the attack, but because of technical problems they can't launch any planes? Heck maybe the reactor is about to meltdown so that is causing issues.
By the time they get everything under control, the attack is already underway.
They can intervene to stop the "4th wave" and also save the wayward American carriers.
Then, they are refueling and rearming the planes to attack the Japanese carriers, but then the time portal stuff happens and they have to leave.
>>
>>220094381
They might have stopped Pearl Harbor from happening but the Japanese still attacked the Philippines, MacArthur most likely would have still fled to Australia, and the US would have still fought a war with Japan.
>>
>>220090634
You shut your whore mouth faggot
>>
>>220095343
Based
>>
>>220095342
Yes, and that's a different timeline.
The idea is to keep the timeline the same while still having a big exciting battle in the end that lets the Nimitz have a positive effect.
>>
>>220095749
Or you could do a Twilight Zone ending where they do stop Pearl Harbor but then when they go back to the future everyone is libtarded (like today but even worse)
>>
>>220071498
This was actually kino

>This movie had a really weird thing going on where it didn’t trust the audience to understand even the simplest thing happening onscreen ever so they had the characters say and think exactly what was going on.
A lot of anime is like that and it drives me nuts because anime fans don't seem to notice it.

There's this show called Monster where the characters all do that and people claim it's the most intelligent and smartly written piece of media that's ever been created.
