>The Blair Witch Project
Alien Abduction is not only better, but it actually predates making it the first true found footage.

>But Cannibal Holocaust came first
Cannibal Holocaust is NOT a found footage film. It has some found footage portions but most of the movie is a straighforward movie.

In Blair Witch, when they actually find the stick figures, the various shots clearly establish that there's about ten or so (possibly a few more), all surrounding a large central grassy/hairy one. The large figure is clearly the Blair Witch, while the ten-ish stick figures represent both the Rustin Parr victims, and now also the filmmakers. The cairns are a group of seven (again, the Parr children), to which are added another three cairns for the filmmakers, together with a fagot (don't snicker please, it's a bundle of sticks, that's what it is) containing Josh's teeth. Very simple but it all works together neatly in a short feature. Also Parr himself might be a victim of the Blair Witch so he might be counted among the stick figures.

The scene structure of Blair Witch is also well-defined: eight days and eight nights, or 16 sections, averaging 5 minutes per section over the short 80 minute feature (one early section runs only a few seconds, to keep things moving along). This structure is so fundamental to the script/story, such as it is, that it was used naturally for the chapter stops on the DVD.

The Thing: a group of Twelve Angry Men. At one point, MacReady addresses the surviving group as "The Jury." K I N O
