Just marathoned the last episode of the first season of True Detective. Absolute kino. The story was shockingly relevant today for a 2014 show. Is the rest of this show worth watching or was the first season lightning in a bottle? Also, was Cole just hallucinating or were there genuine paranormal elements at play? Also, did anyone else notice the weird focus on utility poles and power lines in the show or is that just me?
>>220076626>Is the rest of this show worth watchingit's an anthology so each season is it's own separate cast/setting/storyline.as for the supernatural stuff yeah they lean into it, unbearably so in the completely unwatchable 4th season.season 2 is fine but don't go in thinking it's going to be near s1. s3 is slop, s4 is actively trying to be awful.
>>220076626The rest of the show is worth watching but consider it simply a different show, because if you expect more of S1 you'll be disappointed. I never knew what to make of the paranormal angle but it does seem like there was meant to be something metaphysical going on. The very last conversation they have points directly to life after death, reuniting with lost loved ones. But all that spooky stuff hinted at throughout was never really fleshed out properly. Maybe it's best to leave it vague The telephone wires maybe a visual parallel to those little stick figure things they find around the crime scenes. Or symbolizing interconnection generally
>>220076696Is there any overarching connection between seasons or are they just totally unrelated? Part of what I liked about the show is that it skirted schizo shit very well to the point I found myself wondering if it was written by someone immersed in that culture. I mean, the first season all but posited illuminati sex pest rings complete with a near 1:1 recreation of the spiral/triangle logo. Can I expect any more niche shit like that in the subsequent seasons?
There was no paranormal element in the show no matter how hard you cope.
>>220076772Come to think of it, the metal transmission lines you see in the background of the first scene of the show bare a slight resemblance to the stick idol things. And you're right, the lines imply connections between things which detectives are always searching for
>>220076825>Is there any overarching connection between seasonscops investigating stuff with random supernatural overtones
>>220076825>Can I expect any more niche shit like that in the subsequent seasons?s2 had some oblique reference to elite sex parties but it wasn't really central to the cases3 I didn't watchs4 was ass cancer
>>220076626S1 is the peak, S2 is okay but anything beyond is not worth it at all.>>220076772There wasn't anything paranormal, it was just some retards with retard beliefs.
>>220076626> The story was shockingly relevant today for a 2014 showLol not really.
>>220077779> There wasn't anything paranormalHow did the big bad project his voice throughout the entire labyrinth?
>>220076859There are always paranormal elements in every story because the mind itself taps into a sea of mystery and fabulous wonder
>>220077867Based and fabulouswonderpilled
>>220077836I mean I was constantly reminded of epstein during the entire season. I know he didn't invent diddling rings but particularly the mask thing reminded me of some of the images seen in the files
>>220077903Epstein barely even diddled, if diddled at all. He liked them young but not outright children. It’s more relevant to all the stories in the 00s about evangelical pastors who diddled and cult culture in rural America.
>>220078032It's stated explicitly to involve powerful people like governors, it's not just random pastors diddling. It's more reminiscent of pizzag*te than epstein though. Or at least the verified epsetin stuff.
>>220078090The big cults always had connections to powerful people and such. It reminded more of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Family_International when I watched it
>>220078210I see what you're saying here but I'd argue it's more of a "respectable people operating in secret" situation than an open cult like that. The redneck criminals we see are like outer fringe members of the bigger thing. The Tuttle guy I don't think could be considered a cultist either even if his Christian school is very creepy.
>>220078210>The Family International (TFI) is an American new religious movement founded in 1968 by David Brandt BERGi chuckled
>>220076626Carcosa and the Yellow King are based on a series of stories from the late 1800s so it was probably meant to be real in universe
>>220076626HASTURHASTURHASTUR
>>220076626Season 2 is based as well but it's just a cop story no horror.
>>220076696>make a show set in Alaska >doesn't reference any cool eskimo schizo shit >action grannies and Rust's 100 year old dad for no reason It's funny because Pizolatto basically confirmed the entire show was just straight taken from him. The goobers they gave it too had no clue what he'd even made. They'd have unironically made a better show by actually referencing modern politics.
>>220076825S3 has a cameo making it same universe as another seasonS4 has the most ai script stupid shit that could happen to relate it to another seasonbut that's all
>>220076825I'm surprised no one has killed Pizolatto yet honestly he was dropping that shit in 2013
>>220076626it's just rust rumbling all day
>>220080847SHUB-NIGGERATH
>>220076626Now go read Galveston by Pizzolatto. Not the movie, the book it's based on.
