Do you actually think it's good, or are you just trying to fit in?

its great

Astronauts not knowing the planet isnt earth the whole time is dumb.
Also dude losing his voice was dumb too

Its an ok movie

I can't insert myself into the time period scientifically but I have to assume that anyone working on space stuff at the time knew most planets weren't survivable

>>220077002
It was kinda cool, but the ending lacked impact since I always knew the twist.
>>
I loved it ever since my first watch. I kinda love almost all the ape movies though, but the og is definitely the best one.

We had the MARKY MARK version, I never felt a strong desire to watch this.

Kind of based, but you should still give the original a watch. It has an ending that makes sense.

hmm. True the burton ending is kooky

We got the first close-up images of the surface of Mars in 1965, just 3 years before this came out. I think at the time we lacked much frame of reference for what most other small rocky planets are like
>>
I'm curious, how common is the interpretation that the original novel at the very least and arguably the first movie are about race?
Considering it was by a French author and the origin story of how the apes took over was that they were initially trained to serve humans but eventually their numbers allowed them to take over, and that it was written in the sixties, it feels like a not very subtle allegory
>>
It's good because of Charlton Heston wildly overacting. It's schlock of the lowest order, but Heston throws himself deep into it.

Unironically the reason I'm even familiar with this movie at all beyond the basic cultural osmosis of the ending

If i remember right, they were far away from Earth and after the ship crashlanded, they thought they had ended on a different planet, as they didn't notice any Earth communications after they woke from cryo sleep.
>>
The entire movie should be from Zaius' perspective

They thought they had been traveling away from earth at light speed for a long time. The dead female astronaut had mummified because her stasis pod broke.
