The roots of Japanese anime in America

this movie is missing speed's homocidal tendencies
>>
>>220079384
genuinely the only moment where i was noticeably disappointed with the movie was when that guy ejected with a parachute
yes, it's a more wholesome sort of movie than the original and maybe so much death wouldn't have gelled as well. it still would have been funny and they definitely did kill that nonja earlier so why not
>>
Watched in theater when it came out

It was

K I N O
>>
>>220079754
I watched it on DVD as a kid and didn't really get it
I saw it in theaters today and now I understand
>>
I am more disappointed that this movie flopped than any other. one of the best theater experiences I ever had and the rewatchability is great. imagine all the kinos we'd have gotten if this made tons of money
>>
>>220077992
One of the most unpleasant movies I've ever watched. Viewing this actually gave a splitting headache with the constant bright CGI bullshit flying around. People say it's like a "live action anime" but no it's just ADHD Spy Kids bullshit. No wonder zoomers are reappraising this slop because you'd need to be an iPad baby to enjoy this.

imagine being so mentally weak you get filtered by changes in lighting

They have the part where Speed has his spinning front tire inches away from Snake Oiler's face
>>

what's with zoomers rediscovering this movie? has an eceleb made a video about it?
>>
>>220077992
I saw this was playing in the local movie theater. Why is it suddenly popular it if nowhere?
>>
>>220083985
4k blu ray coming out and it was in IMAX last week and made some bank
>>
>>220083076
>zoomers
Millennial tumblr types were the ones to reappraise it before anyone else especially after the Brothers trooned out.
That being said it's the second-best Hollywood anime/manga adaptation behind Edge of Tomorrow. Not a high bar but it's good for what it is.
>ADHD Spy Kids bullshit
Anon you know that's not a Zoomer thing and very Millennial right, next thing you'll tell me is that Sharkboy and Lava Girl is "Zoomer".

>what's with zoomers rediscovering this movie
Extension of Zoomers liking anime given this is considered one of the very, very few non-shit Hollywood adaptations of classic anime.
Also a lot of Zoomers grew up with this movie, same with the CG Astro Boy.

>4k blu ray coming out
neat.

>I saw this was playing in the local movie theater. Why is it suddenly popular it if nowhere?
Because it's playing in theaters again
>>
>>220084108
I got an IMAX ticket but not enough people did compared to Michael so they put us in a normal theater :(
>>
>>220084146
>zoomers growing up with CG Astro Boy
I don't believe this.
>>
The performances in this movie are unironically fucking amazing. Imagine being Matthew fox and having to deliver those lines in that get up and doing it flawlessly. Same with John Goodman. He had no fucking idea what was going on.
>>
>>220077992
I remember seeing this one in theaters when I was 7. Haven't seen it since then. Wonder if it's about time for a rewatch.
>>
>>220084623
I was an adult when it was in theaters and some kid was being noisy so I yelled across the room at him to shut up.
>>
>>220083076
In your face CGI will always looks bad, just see modern movies. Speed Racer got the right idea, using it to its own advantage in a cool way.
You'll probably never see another good anime adaptation
>>
>>220084290
>I don't believe this.
I know this because I watched it as a kid and have talked about it with several other people my age. It's objectively a mid movie but it has a following for sure.
>>
>>220084888
>You'll probably never see another good anime adaptation
Edge of Tomorrow was significantly better than the actual anime adaptation of All You Need is Kill. It's the exception but it's also proof that it can be done.

EoT's second half is fucking shit.
The manga at least goes somewhere.
Is there an anime?
>>
>>220085215
On my bluray copy says 'brothers', and so does science and reality
>>
>>220085215
the hefty one unironically looks happy and healthy as a tranny

imagine getting transmogged by your own brothersister
>>
>>220085677
There was another theatrical earlier this year under the original title
>>
>>220085677
>Is there an anime?
Yes and it's way worse than both. It basically rewrites the entire thing as a fanfic where Rita is the MC and completely eschews the military sci-fi aesthetic to an ass-ugly tie dye version of Nausicaa for whatever reason.

Thanky you anon.
It looks like vomit.
