How were shows in the past able to have LGBT representation without being obnoxious?
Klinger stopped crossdressing in later seasons. All because the actor Jamie Farr didn't want his sons to see their dad in a dress.
Klinger was only pretending to be crazy to get out of the military.

>>220090248I'm the show Potter finally agrees to sign Klinger's section 8 but doing so will mean Klinger admits to being a homosexual, which was rightly considered a mental illness at the time. Klinger tells the Colonel that he's not a queer, stops wearing dresses and gets promoted to sergeant.

I recall some scenes where Klinger seemed to really enjoy crossdressing. He'd come across a beautiful dress or a pair of heels he didn't own, and he'd desperately want to obtain them. Like he was genuinely passionate about beautiful women's clothing.
>>220091581Klinger never thought he was or should be a woman, he just appreciated the fashion and used that (early on) to try and get the army to send him home as a section 8 or because his vibes were too gay for the 50s or whatever. However whenever shit was going down Klinger would always drop the act and do his duty.
